ESD weekly claims not showing job search log section anymore?

Has anyone else noticed that the job search log section disappeared from the weekly claim filing process? I've been filing my weekly claims for about a month now, and I always used to document my 3 job search activities directly in the system when filing. But last Sunday when I went to file, that whole section was just...gone? The system still asks if I've completed my 3 required activities (which I have), but there's nowhere to actually enter the details anymore. Is this a glitch? Did ESD change something? I'm worried they'll disqualify me for not properly documenting my job searches, even though there's no place to enter them now!

This is actually a recent change ESD made to their system. They separated the job search documentation from the weekly claim filing process. You now need to log your job search activities in the separate "job search log" section of your eServices account. Go to your dashboard and look for the job search log option. You still need to do your 3 activities each week, but you'll document them there instead of during the weekly claim process. They made this change to streamline weekly claims and because they're developing a more robust job search tracking system.

Oh thank goodness! I thought I was going crazy or doing something wrong. I'll check out the separate section right away. Do you know if there's a specific deadline for entering the job searches each week?

I HATE THIS NEW SYSTEM!!! I've been claiming for 4 months and they keep changing things without ANY NOTICE!! How are we supposed to know what to do if they don't tell us??? My neighbor got disqualified for 3 weeks because she didn't know about this change and wasn't logging her job searches at all! ESD is just trying to trick people into making mistakes so they don't have to pay benefits!!!

They actually did send notifications about this change through eServices messages and emails several weeks before implementing it. But I agree they could have made it more obvious in the weekly claim process itself with a redirect link or clearer instructions. It's always a good idea to check your eServices messages weekly and make sure your email is up to date in the system.

Well I never got ANY message! And I check my email everyday! Not everyone is glued to eServices checking for random changes they might make!!

If anyone else is struggling to get through to ESD about this or other issues, I'd recommend trying Claimyr (claimyr.com). I was in the same boat with hours-long hold times, but they helped me get through to an ESD agent in under 30 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3. It helped me get clarity on several issues with my claim, including this job search log change.

For those wondering about the deadline - you technically have until the end of your claim year to enter job searches, but it's strongly recommended to enter them weekly or at least bi-weekly. ESD can request a review of your job search activities at any time, and if they do, you'll only have a few days to provide documentation. So staying current is important. Also, while the weekly claim process no longer includes the job search log entry, you do still need to certify that you completed your required activities each week. If you answer "no" to that question, you could be disqualified for that week regardless of whether you actually did the activities.

This is super helpful, thank you! I've been doing screenshots of job applications just in case, but I'll make sure to start using the separate job search log right away.

Wait so I'm confused...do we still need to do 3 job searches every week? Or is that part gone too? I've just been saying yes to that question but haven't been logging anything since the system changed.

Yes, you absolutely still need to complete 3 job search activities each week! The requirement hasn't changed at all - just where you document them. If you haven't been recording your activities in the job search log section, you should go back and enter them as soon as possible. If you get selected for a job search review and can't provide documentation, you could be required to repay benefits for those weeks.

My sister had her baby last year and went through the same thing with unemployment. The job search part moved somewhere else but she still had to do it. I think its all a part of the new system they're rollng out gradually. Something about making it easier for employers to verify applications too I think she said.

Just to follow up on this thread - there's actually a benefit to this change that isn't immediately obvious. The separate job search log allows you to enter activities throughout the week as you complete them, rather than having to remember all details when you file your weekly claim. It also lets you copy previous job search entries if you're applying to multiple positions at the same company, which saves time. The new system also allows for more detailed documentation, which can be helpful if you ever have to prove your job search activities during an audit or appeal. You can upload screenshots or confirmation emails directly to each job search entry.

That's a good point! I just found the new section and it does seem more comprehensive. I like that I can upload my confirmation emails directly. Thanks again for the explanation!
