Can't find where to report job searches on ESD website - help needed
I've been claiming unemployment benefits for 3 weeks now, and I know I need to log my job search activities, but I can't figure out WHERE on the ESD website I'm supposed to enter this information? I've been keeping detailed notes of all my applications (company names, positions, contact info, etc.) but there doesn't seem to be anywhere to upload or enter this when I file my weekly claim. Am I missing something obvious? The instructions just say I need to keep track of 3 job search activities per week, but doesn't explain where to report them. I'm worried my benefits will get cut off if I don't report these properly!

u dont actually enter them on the website!! they just expect u to keep track of them yourself. i made the same mistake when i first started. as long as u say YES to doing the required activities when filing the weekly claim ur good. but KEEP UR RECORDS!! they can audit u randomly and then ull need to show proof of all ur job searches

•Seriously?? So I've been stressing for nothing? That seems so weird they wouldn't have you upload proof each week. Thanks for clearing that up!

To clarify what the previous commenter said - you don't enter your job search details when filing your weekly claim. You just answer 'Yes' to the question asking if you completed your required job search activities. However, you need to maintain detailed records using their job search log (which you can download from the ESD website under 'Job search requirements'). ESD conducts random audits where they'll request your job search logs, and you'll have 7 days to provide them. Make sure each entry includes: date of contact, employer name, position, contact method, contact person, and result. This is outlined in the unemployment handbook.

•Thank you for the detailed explanation! I've been downloading and filling out the PDF job search log, but assumed I'd need to submit it somewhere. Definitely keeping good records just in case I get audited.

Just adding to the excellent information already provided - if you're participating in the WorkSource program, some of those activities can count toward your weekly job search requirements. Make sure to document those properly as well. If you do get audited, you'll receive a notification in your ESD account and via email. Then you'll need to upload your completed job search logs through the secure document uploader in your eServices account.

•Is the amount of job searches still 3 per week? I remember during COVID they reduced it to 1 but I'm not sure what it is now?

•Yes, it's back to 3 job search activities per week now. The temporary reduction to 1 activity was a COVID measure that ended. Always check your ESD account for your specific requirements though, as some claimants have different requirements based on their circumstances.

This confused me too when I first started unemployment! The system is really not intuitive at all. Just make SURE you're keeping detailed records because if you get audited and can't provide them, they can make you pay back all the benefits from those weeks!

•Thanks for the warning! I'm definitely keeping everything organized now. It just seemed strange there wasn't a portal to upload this information weekly.

If you're having trouble reaching ESD to get any questions answered, I recently used a service called Claimyr that helped me get through to an actual ESD agent without waiting for hours. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 that shows how it works. I was skeptical at first but it actually got me connected with an agent who explained all the job search requirements in detail. Their website is claimyr.com if you're interested. It really helped when I was confused about similar issues.

•Thanks for the tip! I might check that out if I have more questions. The ESD phone lines are absolutely impossible - I tried calling 3 times and gave up after being on hold for 45+ minutes each time.

anyone else think its stupid they dont check ur job searches every week but then can randomly audit u??? feels like a trap to catch people and make them pay everything back. the whole system is designed to trip people up i swear

•While I understand your frustration, the system is designed this way to process claims efficiently. If they required weekly submission and verification of all job searches from all claimants, the system would be overwhelmed and payments would be delayed significantly. Random audits are their compromise solution - but I agree they could communicate the process more clearly.

When I was on unemployment last year I got audited after like 6 weeks. They gave me 7 days to upload all my job search logs. I was lucky because I had kept good records but my friend didn't and he had to pay back like $4200 in benefits! So definitely keep track of everything even if it seems like they don't care about it week to week.

•Wow, that's terrifying! I'm glad I asked about this. I'll definitely keep detailed records of everything.
