Filed unemployment by phone - can't find where to record job searches in ESD portal

Hey everyone, feeling totally lost here! I just filed my initial unemployment claim by phone yesterday (my internet was down for 3 days, ugh). The ESD agent processed everything but never explained how I'm supposed to record my job search activities. When I finally got online and logged into my eServices account, I can't find ANY option to enter my job searches. I've already done 4 applications this week and don't want to get disqualified for not recording them properly. Is there a special section I'm missing? Do I need to wait until my claim is fully processed? The ESD website is so confusing!

The job search log option won't appear until after your first weekly claim is processed. When you file your weekly claim (which you should do this Sunday), you'll be asked if you completed your job search activities. Say yes, but you won't actually log them at that point. After that claim processes (usually by Tuesday), you'll see a new section called "Job Search Log" when you log into your eServices account. That's where you'll enter all your job search details retroactively.

Thank you so much! That makes sense why I couldn't find it. So just to be clear - I should be keeping track of everything on my own until then? I've been taking screenshots of all my applications just in case.

This is actually incorrect advice. You ARE required to log your job searches within your eServices account once the feature becomes available. The ESD can audit your job search activities up to a year later, and if they're not properly recorded in the system, you could face overpayment notices. Don't just keep them in a notebook.

The ESD system is HORRIFIC for new filers!!! I spent THREE WEEKS trying to figure out how to log my job searches and nearly got disqualified because nobody explained it to me. The job search log only appears AFTER your claim is processed and you've filed your first weekly claim. But here's what they don't tell you - even after it appears, it's hidden under a tiny link called "Job Search Log" that doesn't look clickable! It's absolutely RIDICULOUS how they set this up. And if you call to ask about it? GOOD LUCK getting through their phone system!!

This happened to me too! I thought I was going crazy when I couldn't find it. The whole system needs to be redesigned!

As others have mentioned, the job search log functionality won't be accessible until after your initial claim is processed and you've filed your first weekly claim. In the meantime, I highly recommend documenting your job search activities in detail (company name, position, date, application method, contact info, etc.). The ESD requires 3 job search activities per week, and they're strict about this requirement. If you're struggling to reach ESD by phone to get clarification on this or other issues, you might want to check out Claimyr (claimyr.com). I was stuck in phone queue hell for two weeks before a friend recommended it. Their service helped me get through to an actual ESD agent in under 25 minutes instead of spending hours redialing. They have a video demo that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3

Thanks for this detailed info! I'll definitely document everything carefully. And that Claimyr service sounds interesting - I might need it if I run into more issues. Getting through to ESD was a nightmare even when I did reach them.

when i filed my claim the job search thingy showed up after like 9 days. just keep doing your job searches and write them down somewhere. my cousin got in big trouble because he didnt do enough job searches and had to pay back like $2800!! so make sure u do at least 3 every week

This timeline can vary quite a bit depending on whether your claim requires adjudication. For straightforward claims, the job search log typically appears after your first weekly claim is processed (4-7 days after initial filing). For claims with issues that need review, it might take longer. But yes, absolutely crucial to do those 3 activities regardless!

I had this same exact question last month! So frustrating right? The job search log will magically appear after your first weekly claim processes. Just make sure you're keeping track of everything - employer name, address, phone number, website, position, how you applied, etc. When I finally got to enter mine, it wanted WAY more info than I expected!

Oh wow, I didn't realize they needed that much detail! I've been tracking company, position, and date, but I should probably add all those other details too. Thanks for the heads up!

Here's the complete breakdown of when and how the job search log functions: 1. File initial claim (phone or online) 2. Wait for claim to process (typically 1-3 business days) 3. File your first weekly claim (answer YES to completing job searches) 4. After weekly claim processes, job search log appears in eServices 5. Enter all previous job searches retroactively For ALL job search activities, you need: - Date of activity - Type of activity (application, interview, etc.) - Company/organization name - Complete address including zip code - Phone number or email of contact person - Position applied for - Method of contact (online, in-person, etc.) - Results/status Keep all documentation such as confirmation emails as ESD conducts random audits. Failing an audit can result in benefit disqualification and repayment requirements.

This is INCREDIBLY helpful! Thank you for breaking it down so clearly. I'm going to screenshot this and make sure I'm tracking everything properly. Really appreciate the detailed explanation.
