PA UC system says 'birthday values don't match' when adding dependents - stuck for days!
I'm at my wit's end with the PA unemployment system! I got laid off from my accounting job last month and have been trying to file my initial claim since Monday. Everything was going fine until I reached the dependent section. Suddenly got this weird error saying 'birthday values don't match' with some text highlighted in red. When I click on it, it just takes me back to the dependent questions page. I've tried entering different formats for my kids' birthdays (MM/DD/YYYY, MM-DD-YYYY) but nothing works! I've now spent THREE DAYS trying to get past this screen. Called the UC number about 45 times but can't get through to anyone. What the heck does 'birthday values don't match' even mean?? Has anyone run into this before? I need this unemployment money to pay my mortgage next month!

I had this exact same problem in February! The 'birthday values don't match' error actually means the system thinks your dependent's birthday doesn't match what they already have on file from previous tax records. In my case, I had accidentally entered my daughter's birth year as 2018 instead of 2019. Double-check all the birthdays are correct, and make sure you're entering them in MM/DD/YYYY format (with the slashes). Also, verify you selected the correct relationship (son/daughter/stepchild) for each dependent. If that doesn't work, try clearing your browser cache or using a different browser completely.

•Thank you so much for explaining! I'll try double-checking everything again. I wonder if I mixed up my younger son's birth month (it's June but I might have put July). Will let you know if it works!

•Same here! Their system is so outdated it's ridiculous. My claim was held up for 3 weeks because of some mysterious "issue" that no one could explain to me.

The "birthday values don't match" error usually means one of three things: 1. The birthdate you entered for a dependent doesn't match what's in their tax records 2. You entered the birthdate in the wrong format (PA UC system requires MM/DD/YYYY) 3. There's a glitch in the system where it's not accepting valid information First, I'd suggest trying a different browser or clearing your cache as mentioned above. If that doesn't work, try removing all dependents, saving your application, then going back to add them one by one to see which one is causing the problem. If you still can't get it to work, you might need to speak with a UC representative directly. Unfortunately, the phone lines are always jammed.

•Do you know if the birthdates need to match what's on file with the IRS? I claimed my niece on my taxes last year but technically she's not my dependent for UC purposes. Could that be causing problems?

When I was struggling to reach someone at PA UC about a similar issue last month, I found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that actually got me through to a representative after trying for days on my own. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2 Basically, they hold your place in line and call you when they get through to a rep. Saved me from endless busy signals and getting disconnected after waiting for hours. The rep I finally spoke with was able to override the birthday error in their system.

•Does that service actually work? I've been trying to reach someone at UC for 2 weeks about my claim that's been stuck in "pending" status.

•It did for me! I was skeptical too but was desperate after trying for days. Got through to someone within about 2 hours after setting it up.

UPDATE: I finally figured it out! After trying everyone's suggestions, it turns out I had accidentally entered my younger son's birthday with the wrong year (put 2019 instead of 2020). Once I fixed that, the error disappeared and I was able to submit my claim. The system is now showing my claim as "pending" so fingers crossed it goes through without any other issues! Thank you all for your help. This community is amazing!

•Great news! Just be prepared for your claim to sit in "pending" status for a week or two. That's normal these days with how backed up they are. Make sure you still file your weekly certifications even while it's pending!

•Thanks for the heads up! I'll make sure to keep filing weekly. Hoping things go smoothly from here.

•For ID verification issues, you might need to schedule an IDme video call. Check your dashboard for a link to verify your identity through their trusted referee process. It takes about 30-45 minutes but usually resolves verification problems.

So glad you got it sorted out @Keisha Brown! That birthday error is such a common issue but the error message is so confusing. For anyone else dealing with this, I've found that the PA UC system is really picky about date formats and even tiny typos can cause these cryptic errors. Another tip - if you're still getting stuck, try using Chrome in incognito mode. Sometimes cached data from previous sessions can interfere with the form submission. The whole system desperately needs an overhaul but at least there are workarounds!
