PA UC payments stalled at 10 weeks - dashboard still shows open issue despite UC saying it's resolved
I'm currently 29 weeks pregnant and beyond stressed with my unemployment situation. I've been filing weekly claims for 9 consecutive weeks (this Sunday will be my 10th), but I haven't received a single payment yet. What's frustrating is I've already used up almost half of my benefit year - I only qualify for 22 weeks total according to my financial determination letter. When I finally got through to someone at the UC office yesterday, they told me 'all issues are resolved' on my claim, but my dashboard STILL shows one open issue! The representative mentioned something about me being in the 'adjudication process' and basically said all I can do is keep waiting and continue filing my weekly claims. I'm completely out of savings at this point and can't even buy basic necessities for my baby who's due in less than 3 months. Has anyone dealt with this type of situation? Is contacting my state representative worth trying? I'm desperate for any advice on how to get this pushed through faster.

Absolutely contact your state rep IMMEDIATELY. I was stuck in adjudication for 12 weeks with a similar situation - UC reps told me everything was fine but my dashboard showed an unresolved issue. I emailed my state representative on a Thursday explaining my situation, and by Tuesday the following week, all my payments were released. They have special contacts within the UC office who can actually look at your claim and resolve issues much faster than going through regular channels. Make sure to include your full name, last 4 of SSN, claim confirmation number (if you have it), and exactly how long you've been waiting. Don't wait any longer - your situation with being pregnant definitely warrants expedited assistance.

•Thank you so much for this advice! Do you know how to find out who my state rep is? And should I call or email them? I'm worried because my due date is getting closer and I literally have nothing ready for the baby.

•I definitely will update if it works! It's horrible that so many of us are stuck like this. Have you tried anything else that's helped at all?

The state rep approach works, but there's one thing to be aware of: there's a difference between 'all issues resolved' and 'in adjudication.' Even when issues are marked as resolved in their system, your claim still needs to go through the adjudication process where an examiner reviews everything. This is a common source of confusion. In PA, adjudication can legally take up to 21 days, but with current backlogs, it's taking 10-12 weeks for many people. A state rep can help, but also try calling UC directly using Claimyr (claimyr.com). I was skeptical but it actually worked - they call UC and connect you when an agent answers so you don't waste hours redialing. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2 Either way, keep filing your weekly claims. Any weeks properly filed will be paid retroactively once your claim is approved, even if that happens after your baby arrives.

•Thank you for explaining the difference! That makes more sense now. I didn't realize I could still be in adjudication even after issues were 'resolved.' I'll check out that Claimyr service - at this point I'd try anything to get through to someone who can actually help.

when i was pregnent last year my claim got stuck for 14 weeks!!! the stress made my blood pressure go up and my doctor was worried. def call your state rep but ALSO call the UC center at exactly 7:59am right before they open. thats how i got thru once. good luck mama!!!

•This early morning call trick does NOT work anymore. They updated their phone system last October and now calls don't even enter the queue until exactly 8:00am. I tried every day for a week at 7:58, 7:59, etc. The system just tells you they're closed until exactly 8:00. Then at 8:00 on the dot, everyone calls and you get the busy signal or 'too many callers' message.

I feel for you, I really do. The system is DESIGNED to make people give up. They have these so-called 'open issues' that magically appear and disappear and NOBODY can tell you what they actually are!!! And the adjudication process? What a joke. They tell you to 'just keep waiting' while bills pile up. I waited 17 WEEKS last year before contacting my state rep, which I should have done MUCH sooner. Here's what ACTUALLY works: 1. Contact your state rep (find yours at legis.state.pa.us) 2. File a complaint with the Lt. Governor's office 3. Contact legal aid if you qualify DON'T believe them when they say 'everything's fine' or 'just wait' - they're trained to get you off the phone. The fact you're pregnant should make this a priority case!!! DEMAND answers!!!

•Thank you for the link to find my rep! I'll definitely be more persistent. You're right that they seem to just want to get you off the phone. I've been way too patient and it's gotten me nowhere.

I think your claim might be stuck because of the pregnancy. When are you due to deliver? They might have flagged your account for a potential 'availability for work' issue since you'll be unable to work soon. Did you mention your pregnancy to them? You need to clarify that you're currently able and available for work despite being pregnant.

•I'm due in late September. I haven't specifically mentioned my pregnancy to them - I didn't think I needed to since I'm still able to work right now. Could that really be causing the delay? Should I call and clarify this?

•This is incorrect information. Pregnancy alone is NOT a valid reason for PA UC to flag your claim or question your availability for work. Under both PA law and federal pregnancy discrimination laws, they cannot assume you're unavailable just because you're pregnant. Only after you actually cannot work (typically after delivery or if your doctor restricts you from working) would it become relevant. Please don't call and potentially create a new issue where none exists.

One important thing to understand is that when your PA UC dashboard shows an open issue, even if a representative says it's resolved, there might be a system delay in updating your dashboard. However, 10 weeks is far too long for this to be just a display issue. I recommend taking these specific steps: 1. Find your state representative at https://www.legis.state.pa.us/cfdocs/legis/home/findyourlegislator/ 2. Email AND call their office - explain you're pregnant, have been waiting 10 weeks, and need urgent assistance 3. Continue filing your weekly claims without fail 4. Request a specific escalation to a supervisor when you next speak with UC 5. Ask specifically what the open issue is - get the exact code or reason The good news is that once this is resolved, you'll receive all back payments at once. Also, the 22-week benefit period doesn't start counting until you actually receive payments, so you haven't lost any weeks of eligibility.

•Thank you for these detailed steps! I'm actually relieved to hear that my 22 weeks don't start counting until I get payments. I was worried I was losing weeks of eligibility during this waiting period. I'll definitely follow your advice about asking for the specific issue code next time I call.

I went through something similar and found that using Claimyr to reach PA UC was a game-changer. I spent weeks trying to get through on my own with no luck, but Claimyr connected me to an agent in about 25 minutes. The agent was able to see exactly what was causing my delay and escalated it to an examiner. Money hit my account 4 days later. Their website is claimyr.com and they have a demo video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2 Definitely also contact your state rep, but this might get you answers faster. With your pregnancy, you shouldn't have to deal with this stress. The problem could be something simple they can fix quickly once you actually talk to the right person.

•Thank you for suggesting this! I'll try Claimyr tomorrow morning. I'm willing to try anything at this point - the stress isn't good for me or the baby.

•Yes, I got my financial determination letter about 11 weeks ago. It showed my benefit amount and the 22 weeks I qualify for. That part seemed to process correctly.

Just an update - I saw your question about whether to email or call your state rep. Definitely do BOTH. Call their office first thing in the morning, and also send a detailed email. The more information you provide, the better they can help you. Include: 1. Your full name as it appears on your claim 2. The last 4 digits of your SSN 3. Your contact information (phone and email) 4. Your claim confirmation number (if you have it) 5. The date you filed 6. How many weeks you've been waiting 7. That you're pregnant and in financial hardship State representatives have staff specifically designated to handle UC issues. They can often get results within 5-10 business days for urgent cases.
