PA UC partial payment issue - only got paid for last week not all weeks claimed

So confused about my PA unemployment payment... I finally got my first check yesterday (yay!), but it only covered the last week I submitted on my weekly certification? I've been filing every week for almost a month since I lost my warehouse job, but this payment was just for the most recent week. Shouldn't I be getting paid from the first week I started filing claims? I'm missing like 3 weeks of payments that I really need for rent. The online portal just says 'payment issued' for the most recent week and nothing about the previous weeks. Anyone else deal with this? Do I need to call them?

This is actually pretty common with PA UC claims. The first few weeks are often held in a waiting status while they fully process your claim. Check your dashboard - do the earlier weeks show any status like 'pending' or 'in progress'? There's also a one-week waiting period for most claims where you file but don't get paid for that first week. If you filed 4 weeks ago, you should expect payment for weeks 2-4, not week 1.

I just checked again and the first week actually says 'waiting week' but the other 2 weeks just say 'in progress' with no payment date. So your saying this is normal? How long should it take for those other weeks to process?

This happened to me too!! I was SO MAD thinking they were trying to cheat me out of my benefits. I waited 3 weeks with nothing and then suddenly got paid for just the latest week. I panicked thinking they weren't going to pay me for the previous weeks AT ALL but then about a week later I got a lump sum payment for the other eligible weeks (minus the waiting week). The system is RIDICULOUS and they don't explain ANY of this clearly!!

That's a relief to hear! Did you have to do anything special to get those back payments or did they just randomly show up?

There are a few things happening with your claim: 1. First week is your "waiting week" - you don't get paid for this under PA UC rules 2. The system sometimes processes the most recent week first if all your info matches their records 3. Earlier weeks might have "issues" that need manual review For the weeks still showing "in progress," they're likely being reviewed by a claims examiner. This can take 2-6 weeks depending on current backlog. If it's been more than 3 weeks since you filed those weeks, you should try to contact them to check for any issues that might be holding up your payments.

my cousin had this exact same thing happen and he never got paid for those weeks. he tried calling but could never get through. ended up just giving up on it. PA unemployment is the worst!

That's terrible! He should have kept trying! They DO owe that money if he was eligible. The system just makes it so hard to actually talk to anyone that people give up - I think that's by design honestly.

I had something similar happen last month. Got really frustrated trying to call the UC service center - nothing but busy signals for DAYS. I finally used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) and they got me connected to a live person in about 20 minutes. The agent told me my earlier weeks had a verification hold that needed to be cleared. They fixed it right there on the call and I got my back payments within 3 days. There's a video that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2 - definitely worth it when you're missing several weeks of payments!

Hmm never heard of that service before. Did you have to give them any personal info? I'm a little cautious about third-party services.

They don't need your UC info - they just help connect your call through to PA UC. You still talk directly to the unemployment office staff yourself. It just saves you from calling hundreds of times trying to get through.

Pennsylvania UC has what's called a "waiting week" - it's the first eligible week of your benefit year, and you must file for it but you don't receive payment for it. For the other weeks showing "in progress," they're likely still pending review. In my experience helping claimants with this issue, your best options are: 1. Continue checking your dashboard daily for status changes 2. Contact the UC service center directly (though this can be difficult) 3. If there's an issue with your claim, you'll eventually receive a determination letter If it's been more than 21 days since filing those weeks, PA UC considers that an "untimely determination" and you should definitely follow up. Back payments should arrive once any issues are resolved.

Thanks everyone for the responses! This makes so much more sense now. I didn't realize the first week was a waiting week (wish they'd make that more clear when you apply!). I'm going to try contacting them about the other weeks that are still "in progress" since it's been almost 3 weeks now. I'll update if I get through or when those payments finally come through.

Let us know how it goes! And don't give up - the system is DESIGNED to be confusing and make you want to quit trying. That's how they save money. KEEP CALLING and document EVERYTHING!

Quick update for anyone finding this thread with similar issues: PA UC is currently experiencing higher than normal processing times. If your weeks are showing as "in progress" for more than 21 days, you should call the service center. A common reason for delays is income verification, especially if you had variable income or worked for multiple employers during your base year. Having your employment and income documentation ready when you call can help expedite the process.

UPDATE: I finally got through to someone at UC today! You were right - they had an "income verification issue" on my claim. The rep said they should release the payment for those other weeks in 3-5 business days. Thanks for all the advice everyone!
