PA UC overpayment waiver check arrived smaller than expected - Will more checks come?

I've been fighting an overpayment issue with PA UC for months and finally got my waiver approved last week. Today I received a check in the mail but I'm totally confused because it's only for $1,475 when I was supposed to get around $4,300 back! I noticed a couple weird changes on my dashboard that seem to add up to the amount on this check. Has anyone else experienced getting partial refunds for overpayment waivers? Should I expect more checks to come or do I need to call them? I'm worried they're trying to shortchange me after all this hassle!

yes this happened 2 me last year!! they sent my refund in 3 seperate checks over about 2 weeks. the dashboard updated each time before the check came. dont panic yet

Thanks for letting me know! I was getting so anxious thinking they were trying to keep some of my money. Did you have to do anything to get the other checks or did they just automatically send them?

The UC office typically processes overpayment waiver refunds in batches based on payment periods. It's actually quite common for them to send multiple checks rather than one lump sum. This happens because each payment period is tracked separately in their system. I would recommend keeping an eye on your dashboard for additional updates over the next 2-3 weeks. You should see new entries appear before each check arrives. If you don't see any movement after 2 weeks, then it might be worth contacting them.

I wish they would explain this somewhere!!! Makes no sense why they can't just send one check for everything. The UC system is so inefficient.

My cousin went thru this same EXACT thing in January!!! They sent him checks for like 6 weeks straight, all different amounts. The whole thing is a JOKE honestly. They take ur money in one big chunk but give it back in little pieces. Classic government nonsense!!!

Wow, 6 weeks of checks? That's going to be annoying to keep track of. Did your cousin eventually get back the full amount he was supposed to?

I had to deal with an overpayment waiver last year. From my experience, they often split the payments based on how the overpayment was originally calculated (by benefit week). Check your dashboard carefully - there should be line items showing which weeks were included in this first refund payment. The good news is that yes, you should get additional checks until you reach the full amount that was waived. The bad news is that it might take 3-4 weeks for all payments to process completely. If you don't see movement on your dashboard within two weeks, try reaching Claimyr.com - they helped me get through to a UC rep when I had questions about my waiver refund status. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2 Rather than spending hours calling and getting busy signals, I got through in about 20 minutes.

Did Claimyr really work? I've been trying to get through about my missing payment for 3 days now!

I'm going through almost the same thing right now! My waiver got approved 3 weeks ago and I've received 2 checks so far (about $2700 total) but I'm still waiting on another $1900 or so. The UC rep I spoke with told me they have to process each benefit week individually because of how their computer system works. Something about different rates applying to different weeks? I don't really get it but they assured me all the money will come eventually. I've been taking pictures of each check as it arrives just to be safe. I suggest doing the same and keeping a running total so you know exactly what you've received so far.

That's a really smart idea about taking pictures of the checks. I'll definitely do that. How many days apart did your checks arrive?

I dont know what everybody else is talking about. When i had a waiver they sent me just 1 check for everything. Maybe u should just call them directly & ask whats happening w your specific case

This can vary depending on the specifics of each case. If your overpayment was all within the same benefit period or resulted from a single issue, you might receive one check. But if the overpayment spanned multiple quarters or involved different types of issues, it's typically processed as multiple payments.

Just wanted to update everyone - I ended up calling PA UC about my overpayment waiver refund last month, and they told me that checks are coming out in batches based on benefit weeks. The agent said it could take up to 6 weeks for all refunds to be processed completely. So far I've received 4 separate checks that total about 80% of what I was owed. Still waiting on the rest! The most annoying part is how there's no way to track this online properly - the dashboard just shows vague adjustments but doesn't tell you how many more payments to expect.

Thanks for sharing your experience! It's so frustrating that there's no clear tracking. I'm going to start keeping a spreadsheet of what I receive versus what I'm expecting. 6 weeks seems like a really long time though!

One more thing to be aware of - make sure you're keeping track of which weeks have been refunded. If the total doesn't match up after all checks have arrived, you'll need documentation when you contact them. I learned this the hard way - they missed refunding one week of my overpayment waiver, and I had to provide proof of exactly which week was missing.

Oh that's concerning! How did you figure out which specific week they missed? Did you have to go through all your paperwork?

Yes, I had to compare the original overpayment notice (which listed all the weeks) with the payments I received. Each check stub had dates for which weeks were being refunded. It was tedious but the only way to prove they missed a week.
