PA UC examiner gave wrong termination date - will this affect my case decision?

Just had my interview with the UC examiner yesterday, and she said I'd get a determination in about a week. I'm stressing because during the interview, I noticed my employer reported my termination date as March 6th, but I have emails and my final paystub showing it was actually March 11th. I mentioned this during the call and the examiner just said she'd make a note of it. I uploaded my proof to the fact finder portal right after our call, but now I'm worried this discrepancy might mess up my claim. Has anyone dealt with date discrepancies before? Could this 5-day difference cause my claim to be denied? I really can't afford any more delays.

The date difference shouldn't be a huge problem as long as you've provided the correct documentation. The examiner's main concern is determining if you were fired for willful misconduct or let go for other reasons. The exact termination date matters more for when your benefits would start, not necessarily for eligibility. Since you uploaded your evidence to the fact finder, you've done your part. The system should register that information before they make their final decision.

Thanks, that's reassuring. The examiner didn't seem too concerned when I mentioned it, but you know how anxiety works. If they deny me because of this date issue, would I need to appeal or can they just fix it?

same thing happened to my brother last month!!! his boss put the wrong date and the UC people didn't even care. they just fixed it in there system. don't worry so much!!

Actually they do care about dates. My claim was delayed for 3 weeks because my employer listed me as still employed for a week after I was actually let go. Had to go through a whole appeal process. The system is totally broken.

The date discrepancy is something they're used to handling. What's more important is that you've documented and reported the correct information. In PA, benefit eligibility starts the week after your last day worked, so the 5-day difference might shift when you can claim your first week, but it shouldn't affect the overall decision about your eligibility. What matters more is the reason for separation. If this was a termination, the examiner is investigating whether it was for willful misconduct (which would disqualify you) or for other reasons (which would qualify you). Focus on that aspect rather than the date discrepancy. The fact that you've already uploaded documentation to the fact finder is excellent - that's exactly the right step to take.

Thank you for the detailed explanation. The separation was due to "poor performance" according to them, but I never received any written warnings or performance improvement plans before they let me go. I explained this to the examiner and she seemed to be taking lots of notes. Hoping that works in my favor.

I had a simlar issue but worse - my employer said I QUIT when I was actually FIRED! Took forever to resolve because they kept saying I voluntarily left employment. The date thing is minor compared to that. You should be fine as long as you provided proof.

This is why I tell EVERYONE to document EVERYTHING with employers! Save emails, texts, record conversations if legal in your state, keep performance reviews... PA UC system is stacked against workers and employers lie ALL THE TIME to avoid their UI tax rates going up. The system is rigged against us!!!

If you're worried about how long this determination might take, I discovered Claimyr when I was dealing with my claim issues. It helped me actually get through to someone at UC when I couldn't get past the busy signals. I used it to talk to an agent about a similar documentation issue and got it resolved way faster than waiting for the system to catch up. Their site is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2. Helped me a ton when I was stuck in limbo with my claim.

does this actually work? i tried calling like 50 times last week and kept getting disconnected!

It worked for me! I was skeptical too but I was desperate after trying for weeks. Got through to an actual person in about 20 minutes instead of endless busy signals.

One important thing - if for some reason they do use the wrong date in their determination, you can still request a reconsideration or file an appeal. You have 15 days from the date on the determination letter to appeal. Don't panic if the initial determination has errors - the appeals process exists for exactly these situations. Just make sure you meet that 15-day deadline if needed.

This is really helpful, thank you. I'll definitely keep an eye on the determination when it comes through and will appeal immediately if there's an issue with the dates. Really hoping it doesn't come to that though!

My employer did something similar but it was the other way around - they had me terminated LATER than I actually was. It was a mess because they were trying to claim I was paid for days I wasn't! PA UC is so frustrating sometimes. Document EVERYTHING and be prepared to appeal if needed. The system is designed to be confusing.

Just wanted to follow-up - did you hear back yet? Curious how long it took for them to make a decision for you...

Just got the determination today! Took exactly 8 days. They approved my claim AND used the correct date I provided. So relieved! Thanks everyone for the advice and support!

Congratulations on getting approved! This is a great example for others who might be dealing with similar date discrepancies. It shows that the PA UC system can handle these issues when you provide proper documentation. The fact that they corrected the date and approved your claim in just 8 days is actually pretty good timing. Thanks for updating us with the outcome - it'll definitely help others who find this thread when they're going through the same stress!

This is such a relief to read! I'm dealing with a similar situation right now where my employer reported the wrong last day of work. Your post gives me hope that the system actually does work sometimes. Did you have to do anything else after uploading your documentation, or did they just automatically use the correct date from your evidence?
