PA UC called after visiting state rep - should I trust 2-day timeline for my claim?

Just wanted to share my latest attempt to break through the PA UC nightmare. After 5 weeks of getting nowhere with my claim (stuck in 'monetarily ineligible' status despite 18 months at my last job), I finally went to my state representative's office yesterday out of pure desperation. This morning I actually got a CALL from someone at unemployment! They said they've sent my information to their supervisor who's forwarding it to an examiner. The rep told me I should hear something definitive within the next two days. I'm trying not to get my hopes up, but has anyone gone the state rep route before? Is this 2-day timeline they're giving me realistic or just another empty promise? After weeks of busy signals and generic emails, I'm skeptical of any timeline they give me but also desperate for this to be resolved.

ya i went to my state rep last year and it WORKED! they fixed my issue in like 4 days, was stuck for over a month before that. they have special contacts inside UC that can actually do stuff

That's really encouraging to hear! Did they tell you a timeline that was actually accurate? I'm so used to false promises from PA UC at this point.

I've helped several people navigate this exact process. When the state rep gets involved, UC typically does expedite the claim review. The 2-day timeline is ambitious but not impossible - in my experience it's more like 3-5 business days before you see movement on your claim status. Make sure you're checking your dashboard and messages daily, and be ready to respond quickly if they request additional documentation. When they say they're sending it to an "examiner," that means your claim is being manually reviewed to determine why it's showing as monetarily ineligible despite your work history. The most common causes are: 1. Employer wage reporting issues 2. Base year calculation problems 3. System data entry errors Keep following up with your state rep's office every 3 days if you don't see movement. They can and will call their UC contact again.

Thank you so much for this detailed explanation. That actually makes sense about my situation - I think there might be a reporting issue because I worked in two different states during my base year. I'll keep checking my dashboard and follow up with the state rep if nothing happens by Friday.

this is why the system is so messed up. people shouldnt NEED to go to their state rep just to get their benefits!!! the system is DESIGNED to discourage people. i had to wait THREE MONTHS just to get my first payment. insanity.

My brother-in-law had this same issue and went to our state rep. They told him 3 days but took 2 weeks. Still better than nothing I guess. Good luck!

Have you tried using Claimyr? I was stuck in a similar situation and couldn't get through on the phone for weeks. After going to my state rep didn't get me anywhere fast enough, I tried Claimyr (claimyr.com) and actually got connected to a real person at UC in about 15 minutes. They have a video demo showing how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2 Once I got through to someone, they were able to fix my monetarily ineligible status on the spot - turned out there was a simple data entry error with my employer ID. Might be worth trying if you don't see movement in the next few days.

I've never heard of this service before. Does it actually work to get through the phone lines? That's been my biggest frustration with this whole process.

Yeah, it worked for me after I wasted two weeks trying to call on my own. The service basically keeps dialing and navigating the phone tree until it gets through, then calls you to connect. Saved my sanity for sure. Worth a try if the state rep route doesn't pan out quickly.

its sad we have to use third party services just to reach our own government agencies!!!!

I'm a volunteer at a worker's rights organization, and I can confirm that using your state representative is often the most effective approach when your claim is stuck. Here's what typically happens: When a state rep contacts the special UC legislative liaison office, your claim gets flagged for expedited review. The timeline they gave you (2 days) is possible but a bit optimistic - in most cases we see resolution within 3-7 business days. If your claim shows "monetarily ineligible" despite having sufficient work history, this typically indicates one of several specific issues: 1. Your wages weren't properly reported by your employer(s) 2. There's a quarter discrepancy in your base year calculation 3. If you worked in multiple states, there may be a missing interstate wage transfer 4. Sometimes there are simple system errors in how your SSN is linked to wage records The examiner will be reviewing these specific aspects of your claim. Make sure you keep checking your dashboard daily, as they may post requests for additional documentation without calling you. If you don't see any updates by early next week, contact your state rep's office again. Their constituent services staff can and should follow up for you.

Wow, thank you for such a thorough explanation! You nailed it - I did work in both PA and NJ during my base year, so that interstate wage issue could be exactly what's happening. I'll make sure to keep watching my dashboard.

This is the kind of info the unemployment office SHOULD be telling people! Why is it so hard to get straight answers from them???

8 days would still be a miracle compared to the 5 weeks I've already waited! Thanks for sharing your experience.

did they tell u what the actual issue was with ur claim? sometimes its something stupid like they typed ur birthdate wrong or something

No, they didn't give me any specifics. Just said it was being sent to an examiner. I'm hoping it's something simple like that and not some complicated interstate wage issue since I worked in NJ for part of my base year.

i tried the state rep thing too and nothing happened for me. ended up having to file an appeal instead. good luck hope yours works out better than mine did

Did you follow up with your state rep's office after your initial contact? Usually they need to be prompted to make a second or third call on your behalf. Also, if you were told you needed to file an appeal, that's actually a different situation than what the original poster described - appeals are for benefit denials, while OP is dealing with a claim processing issue.

make sure u check ur email and dashboard CONSTANTLY!! sometimes they will send u a message and if u dont respond in like 2 days they just close ur issue without fixing anything!!!!

My freind went to her state rep and it was fixed in ONE DAY!!!! BUT only because she had been waiting for 12 WEEKS already and the rep felt bad for her. The unemployment system in PA is completely BROKEN. They make everything so hard on purpose so people will just give up. Its a DISGRACE!!!

12 weeks?! That's insane. I'm at 5 weeks and already feeling desperate. I really hope the system improves someday.

Just wanted to add that if your claim involves wages from another state (NJ in your case), the examiner will be specifically looking at the interstate wage transfer process. This is a common issue that can cause the "monetarily ineligible" status. The examiner will need to verify your NJ wages and combine them with your PA wages to determine your correct benefit amount. This process typically takes longer than standard claims, so I would set your expectations closer to 5-7 business days rather than 2 days. However, with your state rep's involvement, it should move much faster than it would otherwise.

That's really helpful context, thank you. I'll adjust my expectations accordingly. Just having some kind of timeline and knowing that someone is actually looking at my claim is a huge relief after weeks of silence.

I went through something very similar last year - also had the "monetarily ineligible" status despite having plenty of work history. My state rep's office was incredibly helpful and actually got results where months of calling UC directly got me nowhere. In my case, they told me 3-5 days and it ended up being exactly 4 business days before my claim status changed. The key thing is that once the state rep gets involved, your case gets assigned to someone who can actually make decisions rather than just the front-line staff who can only read what's on their screen. One tip: when you check your dashboard, look specifically for any new "correspondence" or document requests. Sometimes they'll ask for additional verification before approving the claim, and responding quickly to those requests can make the difference between a quick resolution and another delay. Fingers crossed for you - the state rep route really does work when everything else fails!
