PA UC benefits frozen since November 2024 - York state rep info needed ASAP
I'm at the end of my rope here. Filed for unemployment back in November and it's now May 2025 - haven't received a SINGLE PAYMENT yet! My claim shows 'processing' for 6 months with no updates. Called the PA UC office 100+ times (literally) and either get disconnected or told someone will 'look into it'. I'm down to my last $240 and about to lose my apartment. Someone told me contacting my state representative might help but I don't know who represents York. Has anyone from York had success getting help from their state rep with UC issues? What's their contact info? Any advice before I'm homeless next month?

York has several state representatives depending on which district you're in. You'll need to check your specific address at https://www.legis.state.pa.us/cfdocs/legis/home/findyourlegislator/ to see who covers you. But YES, contacting your state rep is actually one of the best ways to get UC issues unstuck! Their offices have direct lines to UC higher-ups that regular people can't access. When you call their office, ask specifically for the staff person who handles unemployment cases. Be prepared with your claim number and a brief timeline of your situation. They can often get things resolved within 1-2 weeks.

Thank you so much! I just checked and my rep is Carol Hill-Evans. Going to call first thing tomorrow morning. Really hope this works because I've tried EVERYTHING else. Did you personally have success going through your rep?

the UC system is COMPLETELY BROKEN in PA!! i waited 4 months for my claim and only got paid when i threatened legal action. they don't care about regular people at all.

While the system definitely has problems, threatening legal action rarely speeds things up and can sometimes flag your account for extra scrutiny. The state rep route mentioned above is much more effective. Also make sure you're still filing your weekly claims even if you haven't received any payments yet!

Have you tried using Claimyr to get through to an actual PA UC agent? I was in a similar situation (stuck for 3 months) and couldn't get through on the phone either. Claimyr got me connected to an agent in about 30 minutes after I'd spent weeks trying. The agent was able to see that my claim had an identity verification flag that nobody had told me about. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2 and the website is claimyr.com. Worth checking out if the state rep route doesn't work quickly enough.

Never heard of Claimyr before. Does it actually work? I'm desperate enough to try anything at this point. I'll check out that video.

This. I had a similar experience with my claim last year. Make sure to sign their release form allowing them to access your UC information - they can't help without that. And be super specific about which bills you can't pay and when you'll be evicted. Documentation helps too, like eviction warnings or shut-off notices.

Quick question - are you still filing your weekly claims even though you haven't received any payments? This is CRUCIAL! Even with your claim stuck in processing, you need to keep filing each week. If you haven't been doing this, you might only be eligible for payments going forward from when you start filing weekly again. The system is ridiculous but those are the rules.

Yes I've been filing every Sunday religiously! Haven't missed a single week. The system shows all my weekly claims as

If your claim has been stuck that long, there's likely a specific issue causing the hold. Common ones include:\n\n1. Identity verification problems (often IDme related)\n2. Employer dispute about reason for separation\n3. Missing wages or incorrect employment history\n4. Interstate claim complications\n5. System glitch that needs manual override\n\nWhen you speak with your state rep, ask them to find out specifically what's causing the hold. Sometimes it's something simple that can be fixed quickly once identified. You might also want to check if your Money Network debit card was ever issued - sometimes payments are approved but the card was never sent or was sent to an old address.

Thank you for this detailed info. I did complete IDme verification back in December, so I don't think that's it. My employer definitely isn't contesting anything since they did a mass layoff and told us all to file. I'm guessing it's probably #5 - some kind of system glitch that nobody wants to fix. I'll definitely ask the rep to find out the specific reason.

Thanks for the support. Definitely feels like I'm being treated like a criminal even though I worked steadily for 5 years before getting laid off through no fault of my own. Will update here if I get anywhere with the state rep.

One more tip - before you call your rep's office, write down a clear bullet-point timeline of everything that's happened with dates. Include when you filed, any communications you've received, and all attempts to contact UC. This makes it much easier for them to understand and advocate for your case. You should receive a call or email within 2-3 business days after contacting your rep with an update on your situation. If you don't hear anything by then, follow up - be politely persistent.

Update: Called my state rep this morning and spoke with someone who handles UC issues. They took all my info and said they'll contact UC on my behalf. They said to give them about a week to get a response. Fingers crossed something happens! If not, I'll try that Claimyr service as a backup plan. Thanks everyone for the advice - will let you know what happens.
