How to schedule a PA CareerLink appointment for UC requirements?

Can someone walk me through setting up an appointment on the PA CareerLink website? I need to meet with a career counselor to satisfy my work search requirements for unemployment. I've logged into the site but I'm totally lost trying to find where to schedule an appointment. Is there a specific section I need to click on? This is my first time using CareerLink and my benefit payment might get delayed if I don't figure this out soon!

I just went through this last month! Here's how to schedule a CareerLink appointment: 1. Log into your PA CareerLink account at www.pacareerlink.pa.gov 2. On your dashboard, look for the "Services" tab at the top 3. Click on "Appointment Scheduler" or "Schedule an Appointment" (depends on your local office) 4. Select your local CareerLink office from the dropdown 5. Choose appointment type (select "Career Counseling" for UC requirements) 6. Pick available date/time 7. Confirm and you'll get an email confirmation Make sure to save the confirmation email as proof for your work search activities! You need to record this in your UC weekly certification.

Thank you so much!! I found the Services tab but didn't see Appointment Scheduler right away. Had to scroll down a bit. Just booked for next Tuesday. Do I need to bring anything specific to the appointment? And should I print the confirmation email to take with me?

This isn't entirely accurate. While job applications count as work search activities, PA UC requires you to complete different types of activities. Meeting with a CareerLink counselor definitely counts and is sometimes required if you're in certain UC programs or have been claiming for several months. It's always best to mix up your work search activities.

The CareerLink site is SO frustrating!!!!! I tried making an appointment last week and the system kept crashing. Then I called my local office and was on hold for 45 minutes before someone picked up, only to tell me their appointment system was down and I'd have to try again later. I STILL haven't been able to schedule anything and I'm worried about my benefits being stopped. Has anyone else had this problem?

YES!!! Same thing happened to me. Try using a different browser - Chrome worked for me when Edge kept freezing. Also try very early in the morning, like 7am, when fewer people are on the site.

If you're having trouble with the CareerLink website or can't get through on the phone, I recommend using Claimyr to connect with a live agent. I was struggling with both UC and CareerLink issues and couldn't get anyone on the phone for weeks. Claimyr got me connected to a PA UC agent in about 20 minutes who was able to help with my CareerLink account problems too. You can see how it works at this video demo: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2 or visit claimyr.com. Saved me so much frustration!

Does that actually work? I've been trying to get through to someone about my CareerLink account for days. Is it better than just calling regular UC number?

Definitely better than calling directly. When I called UC directly, I kept getting busy signals or disconnected. With Claimyr, I got through to someone who fixed my account access issues in one call. The agent was also able to note in my file that I had been attempting to schedule CareerLink appointments, which protected my benefits while I sorted out the technical problems.

To answer your question about what to bring to the appointment: 1. Photo ID 2. Your unemployment claim information (claim number is helpful) 3. Resume if you have one (or be prepared to create one there) 4. List of jobs you're interested in/qualified for 5. Work history details You don't need to print the email confirmation, but do take a screenshot or save it on your phone to show if needed. After the appointment, make sure to log it in your work search record when filing your weekly claim!

Perfect! I'll get all that together before Tuesday. One last question - do you know how long these appointments usually last? I need to arrange childcare and want to make sure I have enough time.

Initial appointments typically last about 45-60 minutes. They'll review your work history, help with your resume if needed, and discuss job opportunities in your area. They might also suggest workshops or training programs you can take advantage of. I'd plan for at least an hour to be safe.

Btw, make sure your registration on PA CareerLink is COMPLETE before your appointment. They turned me away becuz I didnt finish all the profile sections and I had to reschedule!!! So annoying!!!! Go to your profile and check that all sections have green checkmarks.

Oh wow, thanks for the heads up! I'll double check my profile tonight and make sure everything is complete. That would've been awful to show up and get turned away.

One important thing to note: CareerLink appointments must be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance for them to count toward your work search requirements. Each week you need to complete and document at least 2 work search activities (applying to jobs, attending workshops, having career counseling appointments, etc.). Also, the system generates a confirmation code when you book an appointment - write this down in case the email doesn't come through. You'll need to enter this code as verification when you report the activity in your weekly certification.

Thank you! I got the confirmation code and saved it both in my phone and wrote it down just to be safe. I've been applying to jobs but wasn't sure if that was enough for the work search requirements. Good to know I need at least 2 activities per week.

Just want to add that if you're having trouble with the PA CareerLink website, you can also walk into your local office during business hours to schedule an appointment in person. I know it's not ideal, but when the online system was down for me, I just went there directly and they got me set up right away. The staff was actually really helpful and walked me through how to use the website properly for next time. Most offices are open Monday-Friday 8am-5pm, but I'd call first to confirm hours since some have reduced schedules.

That's really good to know! I didn't even think about going in person. My local CareerLink office is only about 15 minutes away, so if I run into any issues with the online system again, I'll definitely try that. It's probably easier to get help with setting up the profile correctly too if you're having trouble with it. Thanks for the tip about calling first - I'll make sure to check their current hours before heading over.

Just a heads up for anyone still struggling with the CareerLink website - if you're getting error messages or the site keeps timing out, try clearing your browser cache and cookies first. I was having issues for days and this simple fix solved it immediately. Also, make sure you're not using any browser extensions that might block scripts or cookies, as CareerLink needs these to function properly. If you're still having trouble after that, the mobile version of the site (on your phone) sometimes works better than the desktop version. Hope this helps someone avoid the frustration I went through!

This is so helpful! I've been getting those timeout errors constantly. Just tried clearing my cache and cookies like you suggested and the site is loading much faster now. I was able to finally complete my profile registration that had been stuck for two days. The mobile version tip is great too - I'll definitely keep that in mind as a backup option. Thanks for sharing these troubleshooting steps, you probably just saved me hours of frustration!

Another tip for anyone booking CareerLink appointments - if you're in a rural area or your local office has limited availability, you can schedule virtual appointments too! I live pretty far from my nearest office and was worried about travel time with my work schedule. Found out they offer video call appointments that count the same as in-person visits for UC requirements. Just select "Virtual Appointment" when choosing your appointment type. You'll need a computer or phone with camera/microphone, but it's super convenient. Still brings the same required documents (ID, resume, etc) but you can do it from home. The counselor was just as helpful as an in-person visit would have been!

This is amazing! I had no idea virtual appointments were an option. I've been stressing about getting time off work to drive to my local CareerLink office, but a virtual appointment would be so much easier to fit into my schedule. Do you know if all CareerLink offices offer virtual appointments, or is it only certain locations? And when you scheduled it, did you need any special software installed or does it just work through a web browser? This could be a game-changer for me!
