How to report new employment on final PA UC weekly claim?
Just got hired at a warehouse starting next Monday (yay finally!) and need to file my last UC claim this Sunday. I've never had to report getting a new job before - is there a specific way to do this on the weekly certification? Do I just say I'm no longer unemployed? Will this affect getting paid for this final week since I didn't actually start working yet? Don't want to mess anything up and have them think I'm trying to double-dip or something. Thanks for any help!

Congrats on the new job! When filing your last weekly claim, you'll need to answer 'Yes' to the question asking if there's been a change in your employment status. There will be a section to enter your new employer's name, address, and your start date. Since you haven't actually started working yet, you should still be eligible for benefits for this final claim week. Just be honest about your start date being after this claim week ends. The system is designed to handle this common situation.

•Thank you! That makes sense. Do I also need to answer yes to the question about if I've returned to full-time work? Or is that only for the week I'm actually claiming?

•Good point! I definitely want to be clear that I haven't started the job yet during this claim week.

To be specific - on the weekly certification, you'll answer: 1. "Has your employment situation changed?" - YES 2. "Did you work during the week?" - NO (assuming you didn't work anywhere during this final claim week) 3. "Did you return to full-time work?" - NO (since you haven't started yet) Then in the additional information section, you'll explain you've accepted employment starting on [your start date]. This is exactly how the system is designed to work. You'll receive benefits for the week before your employment begins, and benefits will stop when you start working. The system will automatically close your claim after this final payment.

I DID THIS WRONG when I got hired last year and it was a NIGHTMARE!!! I said yes to "returned to full-time work" even though I hadn't started yet and they denied my last week. Took 3 months to get it fixed because I COULD NOT get through to anyone on the phone. Busy signals for days!!!

•I had the exact same issue! I tried calling for weeks with no luck. I finally used this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me through to a PA UC agent in about 20 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2. Saved me so much stress when trying to fix my final payment issue.

Dont forget to print out your claim records before they close your account. I couldn't access any of my stuff after like 2 weeks once my claim was inactive and needed it for taxes later.

•Good advice but actually they've fixed this issue in the new system. You can now access your claim history and 1099-G forms through your dashboard for 18 months after your claim ends. But saving copies is still smart just in case!

Quick update: Filed my weekly claim this morning and followed the advice here. The system had me confirm my new employer details and start date. It was actually pretty straightforward! The confirmation page shows I should receive payment for this final week in 2-3 business days. Thanks everyone for the help!

Awesome news on landing the warehouse job! Just wanted to add that it's also worth keeping a screenshot or printout of your final weekly claim submission showing the correct answers and your employer info. That way if there are any questions later about timing or whether you reported the job properly, you have documentation. The PA system has gotten much better but it never hurts to have a paper trail, especially for that final payment. Best of luck at the new job!

•That's really smart advice about keeping documentation! I actually didn't think to screenshot my submission but I'll definitely do that for future reference. Thanks for the tip and the congratulations - I'm excited to finally be getting back to work after this whole unemployment journey!

Congrats on the new warehouse job! Just went through this exact situation last month. One thing I'd add is that after you submit your final claim, you might get a confirmation email or notice about your claim ending - keep that too. Sometimes employers ask for proof that you properly closed out your UC benefits when you start. Also, if your warehouse job offers direct deposit, get that set up ASAP on your first day. Makes everything smoother! Good luck with the new gig!

•That's great advice about keeping the claim closure confirmation! I hadn't thought about employers potentially asking for proof that you properly ended your UC benefits. Thanks for the heads up about direct deposit too - I'll make sure to get that sorted on day one. Really appreciate everyone sharing their experiences here, it's made this whole process way less stressful!

This thread is such a great resource! I'm in a similar boat - just accepted a job offer that starts in two weeks and was stressing about how to handle my final claims. Reading through everyone's experiences and advice here has been incredibly helpful. It's reassuring to know the system is actually designed to handle this transition smoothly when you answer the questions correctly. @Aurora St.Pierre congratulations on the warehouse job and thanks for sharing your update - it gives me confidence that I can navigate this process without any major hiccups!
