why was i disqualified for unemployment NYS Department of Labor - no explanation given
Got a letter from NYS Department of Labor saying my unemployment claim is disqualified but they didn't give me any real explanation. Just says I'm "not eligible for benefits at this time" and something about work separation. I was laid off from my warehouse job in December and thought everything would be straightforward. I've been filing my weekly claims and doing the job search stuff like I'm supposed to. Has this happened to anyone else? I really need to understand what went wrong because I can't afford to be without these benefits.

Disqualifications usually fall into a few main categories - work separation issues (like if they think you quit or were fired for misconduct), not meeting work requirements, or not being able and available for work. Check your separation information on the my.ny.gov portal under claim details. Sometimes employers contest claims and provide different information than what you initially reported. You should have appeal rights listed on that disqualification letter.

ugh this is so frustrating!! i got disqualified too and still don't know why. been waiting 3 weeks for someone to call me back. the whole system is broken and they don't care about people who actually need help. sorry i don't have answers but you're not alone in this mess

Same thing here - disqualified with no clear reason. In my case it was because I had worked part-time while collecting benefits months ago and apparently didn't report it correctly on my weekly claims. Even though I thought I was doing everything right. The adjudication process took forever and then boom - disqualified. Now I'm appealing but who knows how long that will take.
