Why isn't my unemployment going through - NYS Department of Labor claim status stuck
Filed my unemployment claim with NYS Department of Labor 2 weeks ago and nothing is happening. The status just says pending and I haven't gotten any payments yet. I lost my job at a restaurant when they cut staff and I qualify for benefits but my claim isn't going through. Called the NYS Department of Labor phone number like 20 times and either get busy signal or they hang up on me after waiting forever. What am I doing wrong? I need these payments to come through soon because rent is due next week.

Two weeks is actually pretty normal for initial processing. Your claim might be in adjudication which means NYS Department of Labor is verifying your employment history and separation reason. Check your my.ny.gov account to see if there are any issues listed that need your attention - sometimes they need additional documentation.

•I checked and it doesn't show any issues that need to be resolved. Just says claim status pending. How long does adjudication usually take?

mine took 3 weeks before first payment came through, hang in there

The phone situation with NYS Department of Labor is absolutely terrible right now. I was having the same problem until someone told me about Claimyr (claimyr.com). They actually get you through to a real agent - I watched their demo video at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI and decided to try it. Got connected to someone at NYS Department of Labor in like 15 minutes who was able to check my claim status and explain exactly what was holding it up.

•How much does that cost though? Seems sketchy to pay someone to make a phone call for you.

•I was skeptical too but honestly it was worth it just to talk to an actual person and get answers. Way better than spending hours trying to get through on my own.

Are you sure you completed your weekly certification? Even while your claim is pending you need to keep filing your weekly claims or you'll lose those weeks. Also make sure you're doing your job search activities because they can hold up payment if you're not meeting the requirements.

•Yes I've been doing the weekly claims religiously. What are the job search requirements exactly? I've been applying to jobs but maybe not documenting it right?

•You need 3 job search activities per week and keep a log of them. Can be applications, interviews, networking events, etc. NYS Department of Labor can audit this anytime so keep good records.

The whole NYS Department of Labor system is a JOKE. They make it as hard as possible to get benefits you've already paid into. I've been waiting 6 weeks for my adjudication to resolve and still nothing. Meanwhile bills keep coming and they don't care.

•I feel this so hard. The system is designed to frustrate people into giving up.
