What's this 'claim migration' thing on NY unemployment? So confused!
I just tried to claim my weekly NY unemployment benefits and got some weird message about 'claim migration' that I never saw before. It said something about my claim needing to be moved to a new system? I'm totally confused. Do I need to reapply or something? Will my payments stop? Been getting benefits for 8 weeks with no issues until today. Anyone know what this is all about?

same thing happened 2 me last month. its normal, they're updating their computer system. you dont need to reapply but you might miss 1 payment while they switch everything over

•Thanks for responding! Did you have to do anything special or just wait? How long did it take for your payments to start again?

The NYSDOL is currently migrating claims from their legacy system to their new modernized platform. This is happening in phases throughout 2025. Here's what you need to know: 1. You don't need to reapply 2. Your claim information will transfer automatically 3. You should continue to certify weekly as usual 4. There might be a 1-2 week delay in payment during the transition 5. You'll receive all benefits you're entitled to, including any delayed payments You should have received an email notification about this a few weeks before the migration. Check your spam folder.

•I never got any email about this! Will check my spam folder but I haven't seen anything. Really wish they'd give better notice for something that affects people's money. Thanks for the info.

•This is actually a legitimate process. The NY Department of Labor announced the system migration back in November 2024. It's not a scam - it's an official upgrade to their benefits system that's been planned for years. The migration notice appears on the official UI Online portal, not via email links.

I went through this migration thing about 3 weeks ago and it was AWFUL. Couldn't access my account for 5 days, then when I finally could log in again, all my payment info was missing! Called the NYSDOL like 50 times and couldn't get through to anyone. Was about to give up when I found Claimyr.com which got me connected to an agent in like 20 minutes. The agent explained that the data was still transferring and fixed whatever was blocking my account. Got my delayed payment 2 days later. Check out their demo video if you're struggling to reach someone: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•Yes it's legit. Way better than waiting days to get through. They just help you skip the phone queue. After missing a week of benefits I wasn't about to wait any longer.

The claim migration is part of NYSDOL's System Modernization Project that was funded in the 2023 budget and is finally being implemented. Here's the technical explanation: They're moving from their 1990s-era mainframe system (UI Benefits System) to a cloud-based platform called UI Online Plus. The migration happens in batches based on the last two digits of your Social Security Number. If your claim is being migrated, you'll need to: 1. Wait 24-48 hours for the migration to complete 2. Log in using your NY.gov ID (same credentials) 3. Verify your information on the new system 4. Continue certifying as normal During migration, your payment history and documents will temporarily appear unavailable, but they will reappear once migration is complete. Nothing is lost permanently.

•This helps a lot! My last two SSN digits are 34 so I guess I'm in the current batch. The system definitely didn't tell me to wait 24-48 hours though - just gave me that cryptic message about migration.

I HATE this new system!!! Been on UI since January and they migrated my claim two weeks ago. Now EVERYTHING is different and confusing. The certification questions changed and I'm terrified I'm going to answer something wrong and lose my benefits. Why do they have to mess with stuff that was working fine?? And they barely gave any notice!!

•The new system actually has better fraud detection and faster processing times once you get used to it. The certification questions are more specific to reduce accidental wrong answers. If you're unsure about any questions, click the info icons next to each question for clarification. Also, there's a tutorial video on the main dashboard page that walks through the new interface.

•Thanks but those tutorials don't cover half the weird stuff in the new system. And why did they have to change the payment day? I used to get paid Tuesdays, now it's Thursdays?? Messes up my whole bill payment schedule!

Update: So I waited overnight and now I can log in again! The system looks completely different - much more modern but I'm still figuring out where everything is. My payment status says "processing" but at least all my previous payment history is there. Thanks everyone for the help!

Just to add some clarification for anyone else experiencing this: if you're scheduled for migration but haven't been migrated yet, you'll receive a banner notification on your account 7 days before your scheduled migration date. The actual migration happens overnight, and you'll see a message like what the original poster described. After migration completes, you'll need to accept the new terms of service and verify your contact information before you can access the new system. Most accounts are fully migrated within 24 hours, but it can take up to 48 hours in some cases.

Final update: My payment just came through! It was 3 days later than usual but everything seems back to normal now. The new system actually has some nice features - I can see more details about my claim and there's even a messaging center where you can contact them directly (though who knows how long they take to respond). Thanks for all the help everyone!

•Glad it worked out! The messaging center usually responds within 48-72 hours for non-urgent issues, which is actually much faster than the old system's correspondence method. Be sure to enable notifications if you want to be alerted when they respond.
