New York Unemployment Payment Amount Lower Than Paperwork Shows
My unemployment paperwork shows $431 weekly benefit amount but when I finally got paid today, they only gave me $381. Anyone know why there's a $50 difference? Makes no sense since the determination letter clearly states $431.

Its probably taxes. Did you elect to have them take taxes out? They usually take like 10% for federal and some for state too

Hey I was stuck trying to reach someone about my payment issues too. I found this site claimyr.com that calls unemployment for you and connects you when they get someone. Costs $20 but totally worth it. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

Check ur determination letter again carefully. Sometimes they deduct child support or other garnishments too if u have any

Same thing happened to me! The actual amount is always less than what they initially tell you because of deductions. Wish they made that clearer in the paperwork tbh 🙄

Pro tip: if u want the full amount just uncheck the tax withholding on ur account. But remember youll owe it all during tax season 💀

The $431 is your gross benefit amount. They take out taxes if you elected for withholding (federal 10% and state 2.5%). They might also deduct health insurance premiums if you opted for that, child support if applicable, or other mandated deductions. The $381 is your net amount after all deductions. If you need clarification, you should contact them directly. Using claimyr.com is the fastest way to get through - they'll wait on hold and connect you to an agent.
