New York Unemployment: How to report hours for 24/7 dog sitting gig work?

Need help reporting hours for dog sitting gig work on my weekly claim. Its a 24/7 job where the dog stays with me for a week. Not paid hourly, just a flat rate with 1099 income. The system wants me to input hours worked but if I put in 24 hours a day it would be 192 hours for the week which seems wrong. What should I put for my hours?

I do professional pet sitting too! I usually just count the active hours - like feeding, walking, playing, etc. Usually comes to about 4-5 hours per day. The rest of the time your just chillin at home anyway 🐕

this is the way! nobody counts sleeping time as work hours even if ur technically 'on duty' lol

That makes so much sense! Thanks for the tip, was stressing about this 😅

Hey guys I actually found a way to get someone on the phone at unemployment to ask about stuff like this. Used this site claimyr.com - its a service that calls and waits on hold then connects you when someone picks up. Costs $20 but totally worth it. Here's a video about how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

sounds kinda sketchy tbh... did it actually work?

yeah fr it worked! got through in like 45 mins instead of calling for days 💯

$20 seems steep just to get someone on the phone 🤔

better than wasting hours calling everyday imo. Time is money 🤷‍♀️

When I did instacart I only reported the hours I was actually doing deliveries. Same concept applies here IMO

I work as an unemployment specialist and here's what you need to know about reporting gig work hours: For non-traditional work arrangements like pet sitting, you should report reasonable active working hours. This means: - Time spent directly caring for the animal (feeding, walking, grooming) - Time spent cleaning up after the pet - Any required check-ins or updates to the owner - Travel time if applicable You do NOT need to report: - Hours sleeping - Hours where you're just at home with the pet present - Passive supervision time Typically, this works out to 4-6 hours per day for most pet sitters. Be consistent with your reporting and keep good records of your actual activities. If you need clarification, you can always reach out to an agent using claimyr.com to get a definitive answer for your specific situation.
