New York Unemployment Backpay Question - From Last Day of Work or Initial Claim Date?
Just lost my job and trying to figure out when backpay starts. Does unemployment pay me starting from my last day of work or do they only start paying from when I actually submitted my claim? Really need to know since theres been a gap between when I stopped working and when I filed.

They backdate to when you lost your job but you need proof to show your last day worked. Make sure you have your termination letter or last paystub handy when you file. You'll also need to explain why you waited to file - they might ask for documentation about that too.

•Last paystub works best but email should be fine tbh. Screenshot it and save it just incase 👍

Hey I was in the same boat last month! Used claimyr.com to get through to them faster - its a service that calls and waits on hold then connects you when an agent picks up. Costs $20 but totally worth it. Check out their process here: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

Here's the full scoop on backpay for NY unemployment: The system DOES allow for backdating to your last day of work, but there are important things to know: - You need solid proof of your last day (termination letter, final paystub, or employer correspondence) - Must have good cause for delayed filing - They'll ask why you didn't file immediately - Some claims might only get partial backdating Best approach: Call them directly to explain your situation. Use claimyr.com to get through quickly - saved me hours of hold time. Document everything and be ready to explain any gaps. Tip: File your claim ASAP even if you're missing some info. You can always update later but at least you'll be in the system.

Just went through this process myself! NY does backdate to your last day of work BUT only if you can prove when you lost your job and have a valid reason for the delay in filing. I had a 10-day gap between losing my job and filing my claim, and they approved the full backpay after I submitted my termination email and explained I was trying to figure out the process first. Don't stress too much - just gather your documentation (last paystub, termination notice, even emails work) and be honest about why there was a delay when you talk to them. The key is filing ASAP from now and being prepared to explain the gap.

•This is exactly what I needed to hear! I've been so worried about the gap between losing my job and filing. What kind of explanation did you give them for the delay? I'm in a similar spot where I was just trying to understand the whole process before jumping in. Really appreciate you sharing your experience 🙏
