NYSDOL Unemployment: Tips for Reaching a Rep When Phone Lines are Jammed?

Hey everyone, I'm in a tough spot and could really use some advice. I need to file for unemployment but I'm having a hard time getting through to a representative. I've got all my documents ready - social security number, employment history, the whole nine yards. But I just can't seem to reach anyone. Has anyone else been in this situation? What did you do? I'm getting pretty desperate here and could use any tips or tricks you might have. Thanks in advance!

I found a way to solve unemployment claim filing difficulties, watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WAe65yZOb10

Here's a script I used when I finally got through. It might help you: "Hello, I need assistance with filing my unemployment claim. I've gathered all necessary documents including my Social Security number and employment history. Can you guide me through the process? Also, are there any specific forms or additional information required?" Good luck!

This is great, thank you so much! I'll definitely use this when I get through.

Good script, but bold of you to assume anyone will ever answer 🀣

Pro tip: use multiple phones to call at the same time. Increases your chances of getting through. I used my cell, work phone, and even dug out an old landline. Felt like a telemarketer but it worked!

Been there, done that. The system is a nightmare. I spent weeks trying to get through. My advice? Keep calling. Set aside a whole day just for dialing if you can. It sucks, but persistence is key.

Have you reached out to your local representative? Sometimes they can help push things through. Worth a shot if you're really stuck.

Michael Adams

I hadn't thought of that. How do I find out who my local rep is?

Just google "[your city] state representative". They usually have a constituent services office that can help with stuff like this.

I feel your pain, OP. The system is overwhelmed right now due to the economic situation. Just remember, persistence is key. Don't let the bureaucracy win. You're entitled to these benefits, so keep fighting for them!

This whole situation is ridiculous. We pay taxes, we should be able to access services when we need them. The government needs to get its act together and fix this broken system. 😀

Preach! πŸ™Œ It's like they want us to give up and not claim what we're entitled to.

Totally agree. We need to start writing to our senators about this. It's unacceptable.

It might help to look into advocacy groups that are working to improve unemployment services. They sometimes offer additional resources or can put pressure on government offices to make changes.

guys. i finaly got through after 2 months of trying. heres what worked for me: 1. Call exactly at 8:01 AM. Not 8:00, not 8:02. 8:01. 2. When you hear the menu, press 1-2-1-4 in that order 3. If you get the "were experiencing high call volume" message, hang up and try again 4. Repeat until you get put on hold. Then DO NOT HANG UP no matter how long it takes it took me 37 tries in one morning but i finaly got through. dont give up!

Hey OP, hang in there. I know it's tough but don't give up. I was in your shoes a few months ago and it felt hopeless. But I finally got through and got my benefits. You've got this! πŸ’ͺ

Thanks for the encouragement. It means a lot. How long did it take you to finally get through?

It took me about 3 weeks of constant trying. But once I got through, the rep was actually really helpful. Stay strong!

Has anyone tried using the unemployment office's social media? Sometimes tweeting at them or messaging on Facebook can get a response. Worth a shot if phone and online aren't working.

Kaylee Cook

Good idea! Sometimes public-facing platforms get faster responses because they don't want the bad publicity.

Plot twist: there are no actual reps. It's all just a simulation to keep us busy while the lizard people take over πŸ¦ŽπŸ‘½

I found a method that actually works to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

$20? That's a scam. The government should provide this service for free!

I know it sounds sketchy, but I swear it worked for me. Was desperate and took a chance. Got through in like 2 hours.

How does it work exactly? Do they just keep redialing?

I tried Claimyr and it actually worked for me too! I was hesitant at first because of the cost, but after days of trying and failing, it was worth it. It’s unfortunate that we have to pay for what should be a free service, but in desperate times, it might be a necessary expense. Still, it would be better if the unemployment office could improve their own system so we wouldn't need third-party services.

Have you tried calling right when they open? I heard that's the best time to get through. Also, make sure you have a good phone connection. Nothing worse than finally getting through and then dropping the call!

Michael Adams

Thanks for the tip! What time do they open? I'll set my alarm and give it a shot tomorrow morning.

They open at 8 AM. Good luck! Let us know how it goes.

Ugh, the unemployment office is the worst. I swear they make it difficult on purpose. Have you tried applying online? Sometimes that's easier than trying to reach a human.

0 coins

-

Michael Adams

I tried the online application, but I got stuck on a few questions. That's why I need to talk to someone 😞

Online is useless. I filed 3 months ago and still haven't heard back. You need to talk to a real person.

have you tried faxing your application? i know it sounds old school but sometimes it works when the phone lines are jammed

0 coins

-

Michael Adams

Faxing? What year is it? πŸ˜‚ But seriously, I don't even know where to find a fax machine these days.

Lol faxing. Next you'll tell us to send a telegram 🀣🀣🀣

Faxing might seem outdated, but it can be effective. Some libraries or office supply stores offer fax services if you don't have one at home. It's worth checking out if you're out of other options.

Another option is to try services like Claimyr that some posters mentioned. While these services do cost money, they can save you time and frustration if you’ve exhausted all other possible methods and are in dire need. Just keep in mind that while these services are legitimate, they highlight a problematic gap in access to government services that ideally should be free and efficient. Ultimately, balancing cost with need is crucial in deciding if Claimyr or similar services are right for you.
