NYSDOL: How to claim missing weeks? Can't reach anyone!
Hey everyone, I'm having trouble claiming some missing weeks for my unemployment. I tried calling the NYSDOL but can't get through to anyone. Has anyone else dealt with this? Any tips on how to actually reach a human being there? I'm getting pretty frustrated and could really use some advice.

Ugh, I feel your pain. I've been trying to get through to them for weeks now. It's like they don't want us to actually get our benefits 🙄

Same here! I've called like 50 times and always get the busy signal. This is ridiculous!

Have you guys tried calling right when they open? I heard that's the best time to get through.

Yeah, I've tried that. Still no luck. It's like trying to win the lottery or something 😫

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone! I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video explaining it: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

Idk man, paying to get through seems sketchy. Shouldn't this be a free service?

I get the skepticism, but it seriously worked for me. After weeks of trying, I finally got through and sorted out my issue. Worth every penny imo.

How long did you have to wait once you used the service?

It took about 2 hours total, but I didn't have to sit there listening to hold music. They just called me when an agent was on the line.

Here's what I've learned after dealing with NYSDOL for months: 1. Persistence is key. Keep calling, even if it's frustrating. 2. Try different times of day. Early morning or late afternoon sometimes works better. 3. Have all your info ready when you call. They'll ask for your SSN, claim ID, etc. 4. Be polite to the agents. They're swamped and dealing with angry people all day. 5. If you can't get through by phone, try their online message system or social media. 6. Consider reaching out to your local state representative. They can sometimes help push things through. Hope this helps! Don't give up, you'll get through eventually.

I never thought about contacting my state rep. That's a good idea!

Am I the only one who thinks its ridiculous that we have to jump through all these hoops just to get what we're entitled to? The system is broken af 😤

Preach! 🙌 It's like they're purposely making it difficult so people give up.

Totally agree. We need to put pressure on our reps to fix this mess.

Has anyone had luck with the online system? I've been trying to claim my missing weeks there but keep getting error messages.

The online system is a joke. I've had nothing but problems with it.

Try clearing your browser cache and cookies. That worked for me when I was getting errors.

Quick question - does anyone know if theres a time limit on claiming missing weeks? I just realized I forgot to claim a couple weeks from like 2 months ago 😬

I think you have up to a year to claim, but don't quote me on that. Best to check with NYSDOL directly.

Yea, pretty sure its a year. But the sooner you do it, the better. Don't wait!

LPT: If you do manage to get through to someone, ask for their direct extension or employee ID. Makes it easier if you need to follow up later.
