NYS Department of Labor worker attitude - how are lex and the worker at the unemployment office similar?

I had the weirdest experience at the local NYS Department of Labor office yesterday. I went in person to try to get help with my claim that's been stuck in adjudication for over a month. The worker I spoke with reminded me of Lex Luthor - like they had all this power over my situation but seemed to enjoy making things difficult. They kept asking me the same questions over and over, acting like I was trying to scam the system when I'm just trying to get my legitimate benefits. Has anyone else noticed this similarity? The way some NYS Department of Labor workers act like they're supervillains controlling your financial fate? I'm starting to think there's some kind of training they get to be as unhelpful as possible.

I get what you mean about the power dynamic, but most NYS Department of Labor workers are just following strict protocols. When your claim is in adjudication, they have limited ability to override the system. The process usually takes 4-6 weeks for identity verification or work separation issues. Did they give you any specific reason for the delay or tell you what documentation might speed things up?

They said something about needing to verify my previous employer info but wouldn't tell me exactly what was missing. Just kept saying 'the system will contact you when it's ready' like some kind of robot.

LMAO yes! I've been saying this for months. Some of these NYS Department of Labor people act like they personally own the money they're supposed to give you. I had one worker literally roll her eyes when I asked about my weekly claim certification. Like sorry for needing to eat and pay rent while I look for work??

If you're having trouble reaching someone helpful at NYS Department of Labor, I found this service called Claimyr that actually gets you through to real agents. Check out claimyr.com - they have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. I was skeptical at first but it saved me weeks of calling and getting nowhere. Way better than dealing with the Lex Luthor types in person.

How much does something like that cost? I'm already broke waiting for my benefits to start.

It's worth checking out their site for details, but honestly the time you save vs calling for hours every day makes it worthwhile. Plus you actually get to talk to someone who can help instead of getting the runaround.

omg this is so accurate!!! my worker acted like she was doing me some huge favor just by looking at my file. meanwhile my rent is due and I haven't gotten paid in 6 weeks because of their stupid adjudication process

I think you're being a bit dramatic with the Lex Luthor comparison. These workers deal with hundreds of cases and have to follow federal and state regulations. The adjudication process exists to prevent fraud, which costs taxpayers millions. Maybe try approaching them with more patience and understanding of their constraints rather than assuming malicious intent.

Found the NYS Department of Labor worker! Just kidding but seriously some of these people could use customer service training.
