NYDOL asking for specific job dates from past 18 months - don't have exact info. Help!
Hey everyone, I'm having trouble with my unemployment claim. They asked me for the start and end dates of all my jobs from the past 18 months, but I don't have the specific day information. I thought it was just the last job that mattered for unemployment. What should I do? Has anyone else run into this?

Ugh, I hate when they ask for such specific info! I had the same problem last year. What I did was estimate the dates as best I could. As long as you're close, it should be fine. They mainly care about the months and years, not the exact days.

Are you sure about that? I've heard they can be pretty strict about accuracy. Wouldn't want OP to get in trouble for giving wrong info.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure. They understand ppl dont keep perfect records. Just be as accurate as you can and explain if they ask for more details.

Thanks for the advice! I'll try my best to estimate. Hopefully they won't give me too much trouble about it.

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit? Has anyone else tried it?

It's totally legit! I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of hold time. Worth every penny imo.

$20 just to talk to someone? The system is so broken 🤦♂️

I get it, but when you've been trying to reach someone for weeks, $20 starts to look pretty good lol

This is why I always tell people to keep a detailed work diary. Start dates, end dates, supervisors names, everything. You never know when youll need it for unemployment or job applications.

Have you tried contacting your previous employers? They should have records of your employment dates. It might take some time, but it's better than guessing.

That's a good idea, I hadn't thought of that. I'll give it a shot. Thanks!

The unemployment system is such a mess rn. They ask for all this detailed info but then take forever to process claims. Its like they want to make it as difficult as possible 🙄

Preach! 👏 I've been waiting on my claim for 2 months now. It's ridiculous.

Here's what you need to do: 1. Gather all the documentation you have - pay stubs, W2s, offer letters, etc. 2. Make your best estimate for the dates you don't have exact records for. 3. Write a brief explanation of why you don't have exact dates for some jobs. 4. Submit everything together with your claim. 5. If they need more info, they'll contact you. Remember, it's better to submit with your best estimates than to delay your claim trying to get perfect info. They understand that not everyone keeps detailed records. If you run into issues, you can always appeal or provide additional info later. The important thing is to get your claim started. Good luck!

I used one last year. It was okay, but honestly, you can find most of the info they provide for free online if you're willing to do some research.

Be careful with those. Some of them are scams. Make sure to do your research before paying for any service.
