How to backdate UI claim? NYDOL making it impossible!

Hey everyone, I'm having some trouble with backdating my unemployment claim. I initially filed it a while ago, but now I need to backdate it. Has anyone gone through this process before? What steps did you take? I'm feeling pretty lost and could use some guidance.

I've been there, buddy. It's a real pain in the ass. When did your last job end? That's usually the key date they care about.

Thanks for responding! My last job ended about 2 months ago, but I didn't file right away because I thought I'd find something quickly. Big mistake, I guess.

Oof, yeah that's tough. You might have to explain why you waited. Be honest but emphasize any job search efforts you made during that time.

This happened to me too! I had to write a detailed letter explaining my situation. It took forever, but they eventually approved it. Hang in there!

The unemployment system is such a mess rn. I tried backdating my claim last month and got nowhere. Spent hours on hold only to be disconnected. 🤬

Same here! It's like they don't want us to get the benefits we're entitled to. The whole system needs an overhaul.

Guys, I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

Wait, what? You have to pay to talk to someone about your benefits? That's messed up.

I know it sounds sketchy, but after weeks of trying, it was worth it to me. Got my issue resolved in one call.

Here's what you need to do to backdate your claim: 1. Gather all your employment info for the period you're trying to backdate. 2. Call the unemployment office (good luck with that lol) 3. Explain your situation clearly and calmly 4. Be prepared to fill out additional forms 5. Follow up regularly if you don't hear back It's a process, but stick with it. Don't let them give you the runaround!

Thank you so much for this detailed info! It's really helpful to have a clear plan of action.

This is solid advice. I'd add: keep a log of all your calls and who you spoke to. It came in handy for me when there were discrepancies.

have you tried going to the unemployment office in person? sometimes face-to-face works better than phone calls

Yeah, it was a nightmare. But don't lose hope! Yours might go faster. Just stay persistent!

Pro tip: if you can't get through on the phone, try reaching out on Twitter. Sometimes their social media team is more responsive.

This actually worked for me! Got a DM with a direct number to call. Saved me hours of frustration.

Anyone else feel like they need a law degree to navigate this stuff? 🤔 Why can't they make it simpler?

For real! I swear they make it complicated on purpose to discourage people from claiming benefits.

Nah, its just typical government inefficiency. Never attribute to malice what can be explained by incompetence 😂
