How to cancel a NY unemployment fair hearing appointment - need phone number ASAP
I scheduled a fair hearing for my NY unemployment case last week but now I need to cancel it because my employer just sent the wage information they were missing. Does anyone know the direct phone number to cancel a fair hearing appointment? I've been trying the main unemployment number for 2 days but can't get through to a person. My hearing is scheduled for next Tuesday so I need to cancel ASAP before they waste time on a case that's resolved.

•Thanks! Did you actually get through on that number? I've been on hold so many times with unemployment that I'm losing my mind.

The number you need is 518-402-0205. This is specifically for canceling or rescheduling unemployment insurance fair hearings. Make sure you have your hearing case number ready when you call. They'll ask for that and your social security number to verify your identity. Alternatively, there should be instructions for cancellation on your fair hearing notice - sometimes they allow you to send a written request to cancel by fax or email.

•Thank you so much! I'll try calling that number right now. I do have my case number from the notice they sent me.

•The 518 number worked for me when I needed to reschedule my hearing last month! Just make sure you call during business hours (8:30-4:30).

I tried canceling a hearing last year and spent HOURS trying to reach someone. The trick is to call right at 8:00am when they open. But honestly, after wasting so much time, I used Claimyr.com to get through to an agent in about 10 minutes. They have this service that calls the unemployment office for you and then connects you when they reach an agent. Saved me so much frustration! They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•Yes, it's legitimate. I was skeptical too but it actually worked. You do have to pay for it, but for me it was worth not spending hours on hold.

•I might try this if I can't get through today. At this point I just need to cancel this hearing before they waste time on it.

Even if you can't reach them by phone before your hearing date, you can still cancel by NOT SHOWING UP to the hearing. That's what I did when my issue got resolved the day before my hearing. They just dismissed the case automatically. BUT if you're the one who REQUESTED the hearing (not the DOL), then you should really try to cancel properly or they might rule against you for not showing up!!!! So definitely depends on your situation!

•This is incorrect advice. If you requested the hearing and don't show up, the Administrative Law Judge will likely dismiss your case with prejudice, meaning you can't request another hearing on the same issue. Even if the DOL requested it, not showing up without notice is considered unprofessional and could potentially affect your case if you need to interact with the system in the future.

•Oh, my bad!! In my case the DOL requested the hearing so maybe that's why it worked out ok for me. Thanks for clarifying!!

•There's a number on the notice but when I call it just goes to the general queue. I've been trying for 2 days with no luck getting through to anyone.

To properly cancel a UI fair hearing in New York, you have four options: 1. Call the Unemployment Insurance Appeal Board at 518-402-0205 2. Email your request to UIABOfficialMailbox@labor.ny.gov (include your hearing ID and contact info) 3. Fax a written request to 518-485-8621 4. Mail a written request to: NYS Unemployment Insurance Appeal Board, PO Box 15126, Albany, NY 12212-5126 The fastest is option 1 or 2. Make sure you include your full name, last four digits of your SSN, and your hearing case number in any correspondence. I recommend trying the email option since you've been having trouble getting through by phone.

•Thank you for all these options! I didn't know about the email option. I'm going to try that right now in case I can't get through by phone.

•Just to add to this excellent advice - when sending the email, put your hearing case number in the subject line along with "CANCELLATION REQUEST" to help ensure it gets routed correctly.

UPDATE: I finally got through! For anyone who might need it in the future, the 518-402-0205 number worked. I had to wait on hold for about 25 minutes, but they were able to cancel my hearing. They also sent me an email confirmation of the cancellation. Thanks everyone for your help!
