How to cancel an ESD unemployment claim? Can't reach a live person!
I filed for unemployment last week but now I got a job offer that starts immediately, so I need to cancel my ESD claim ASAP. I've tried calling the main number literally 12 times over 2 days but just get stuck in the automated system loop or it hangs up on me. I can't find any clear option to cancel a claim in eServices either. Has anyone successfully canceled their claim before? Is there a specific number or a trick to actually reach a human being? My worry is getting hit with an overpayment later if I don't properly cancel this thing. Seriously frustrated right now!

Are you sure that's all I need to do? I already filed one weekly claim before getting this job offer. Will that cause problems later?

The previous commenter is partially correct, but I'd recommend a bit more than just not filing. Here's what you should do:\n\n1. Don't file any more weekly claims (this is the most important part)\n2. Report your work when you start the job in your eServices account under

If you really need to talk to someone at ESD, I finally got through using Claimyr. It's a service that basically calls ESD for you and calls you back when they get a real person on the line. I was skeptical but it actually worked after weeks of trying myself. You can see how it works here: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 and their website is claimyr.com\n\nThat said, if you've only filed one weekly claim, following the steps about reporting your return to work in eServices might be sufficient without needing to call in.

Thanks for the suggestion! I'll try the eServices steps first, but good to know there's an option if I really need to speak with someone.

ESD IS THE WORST!!! I tried canceling my claim last year and STILL got hit with an overpayment of $1,780 six months later because THEY didn't process it right!!! I reported my return to work and everything but some idiot in their office didn't enter it properly. Now I'm paying back money I never should have gotten in the first place. DOCUMENT EVERYTHING!!!!!

YES I appealed and I'm STILL waiting for a hearing date. Been 3 months already. Meanwhile they're taking 25% of my current UI benefits (lost that new job in January) to repay the \

I was in a similar situation last month. I found that the best approach is a combination of what others have said:\n\n1. Stop filing weekly claims immediately\n2. Use the \

Thank you! That's really helpful. I'll definitely take screenshots as proof. And thanks - I'm excited about the new position, just worried about making sure all the unemployment stuff is properly closed out.

While that's generally true, properly reporting return to work is still important for the system record. It's not just about canceling - it's about documenting the reason for no longer filing claims. This can matter if there are any questions later about claim periods.
