How fast do you get unemployment money from NYS Department of Labor after filing?
Just filed my unemployment claim yesterday and wondering how long before I actually see money? I got laid off from my restaurant job last week and bills are already piling up. The NYS Department of Labor website said my claim was accepted but doesn't give any timeline. Has anyone gotten their first payment recently? Really need to know what to expect timing wise.

If everything goes smoothly with your claim, you're usually looking at about 2-3 weeks from filing to first payment. But that's assuming no adjudication issues come up. You'll need to file your weekly claims every week even while waiting for approval. The money gets direct deposited if you set that up, otherwise they mail a debit card.

mine took forever!! like 6 weeks because they had to verify my work history or something. kept saying adjudication in progress and I couldn't get through to anyone at NYS Department of Labor

I filed in November and got my first payment in like 10 days! But I think I was lucky because it was right after I got let go and my employer didn't contest it or anything. Restaurant jobs are usually pretty straightforward for unemployment.
