Has anyone gotten the NY unemployment $2,750 stimulus email? Is it legit?
I just got an email supposedly from NYSDOL about a $2,750 stimulus payment for previous unemployment recipients. Has anyone else received this? I'm nervous to click any links because it seems suspicious, but the email looks pretty official. The message says something about additional pandemic recovery funds being authorized for 2025. I don't want to miss out if it's real but also don't want to get scammed.

This is likely a SCAM. The NY Department of Labor hasn't announced any new $2,750 stimulus payments for 2025. They would make a major announcement on their official website and social media channels first, not just send random emails. Never click on links in suspicious emails claiming to be from NYSDOL. If you want to check if something is legitimate, go directly to the official unemployment website by typing the URL yourself or call their official hotline.

•Thanks! I thought it seemed fishy. The email had a few typos when I looked closer. I'll delete it.

got the same thing yesterday!!! almost clicked on it but noticed the email address looked weird - it was something like nysdol-benefits@agency-notify2.com instead of ending with .gov

•That's definitely a scam email. All legitimate NY government communications come from .ny.gov email addresses. Report it by forwarding to spam@uce.gov - this helps authorities track these scams.

I received a similar email last month but it was for $3,200! When I called the unemployment office (took FOREVER to get through), they confirmed it was a scam. They said there's been a huge increase in unemployment-related phishing attempts in 2025. The rep told me they're NEVER going to send you emails asking you to click links to claim money - all legitimate benefits are processed through your existing NY.gov account after proper notification.

•If anyone needs to actually reach NYSDOL by phone without waiting forever, I recently used a service called Claimyr that got me through to an agent in about 20 minutes instead of spending days trying. They have a demo video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE. Their website is claimyr.com and it was worth it just to get confirmation about these scam emails going around.

I got it too & almost fell for it bc I'm desperate for money right now. But the url was weird & when I hovered over it, it showed some random website not NYS.gov

THESE SCAMMERS SHOULD BE IN JAIL!!!! I'm so sick of all these phishing attempts targeting people who have been on unemployment. My neighbor clicked on one of these and they stole her identity and tried to redirect her benefits. She had to freeze all her credit and file police reports. BE CAREFUL PEOPLE!!!

•That's awful about your neighbor! I'm glad I asked here first. I've been having trouble making rent so I was really hoping it was real.

For everyone's information, here are the official ways NYSDOL will communicate with you: 1. Messages through your NY.gov secure account messaging system 2. Official letters via postal mail 3. Phone calls from their official numbers (but they won't ask for your full SSN) Emails from NYSDOL are typically notifications to check your secure message inbox, not direct benefit offers. If you're ever unsure about communication claiming to be from NYSDOL, log in directly to your account at labor.ny.gov or call their official number at 888-209-8124.

Has anyone noticed that these scam emails tend to come right around when rent/bills are due? It's like they know exactly when people are most desperate and vulnerable. The timing of this one at the beginning of the month seems deliberately calculated.

•You're absolutely right. Scammers are well aware of monthly financial cycles and time their attacks accordingly. They also tend to increase during tax season, after public holidays, and whenever there's news about potential government benefits.

my cousin said he got a real stimulus from ny unemployment last year but it was only like $600 not thousands... maybe ur thinking of that?

•Your cousin likely received a retroactive payment or an adjustment to a previous claim, not a stimulus. The last federal unemployment stimulus programs ended years ago. Any current payments would be regular unemployment benefits or adjustments to existing claims, not new stimulus payments.

I reported the email to NYSDOL through their fraud reporting page. They have a specific section for reporting scam emails/texts. The confirmation page said they're seeing a lot of these fake stimulus emails lately.
