Can't reach NY unemployment when call volume is high - funds stuck due to false 'break in claim'

I'm at my wits end trying to contact NY unemployment!!! The phone lines are ALWAYS busy and I can't get through to a real person. My funds haven't been released because the system is saying I have a 'break in my claim' with this new partial unemployment system - which is COMPLETELY FALSE! I've been certifying every single week without missing one. Has anyone else dealt with this 'break in claim' error? How did you get it fixed when it's impossible to reach anyone on the phone? I'm getting really desperate here...

I had the exact same problem last month. The new system flagged a break in my claim even though I certified every week. It's a glitch with their updated partial unemployment system rollout. I tried calling for 2 weeks straight with no luck - busy signals or disconnects every time.

Ugh, that's exactly what's happening to me! Did you ever get it resolved? I'm about to miss rent if I can't get this fixed soon.

3 days? I've been trying for over a week now! Did you try different times of day? I've tried morning, afternoon, evening... nothing works.

This 'break in claim' error is actually quite common with the new partial unemployment system. The system sometimes misinterprets normal certification patterns as breaks in your claim, especially if you reported any income during certain weeks. You definitely need to speak with a claims specialist to have them manually review and override this in the system. Here are a few strategies that might help: 1. Call exactly at 8:00am when the lines open 2. Try the alternate number (888-209-8124) if you've been using the main line 3. Use the message center in your online account to request a callback 4. If possible, visit your local NY Career Center in person The false 'break in claim' issue usually takes about 10-15 minutes for an agent to fix once you actually reach someone.

Thank you! I've tried calling right at 8am but still no luck. I'll try the alternate number tomorrow. I did send a message through the portal but haven't heard anything back after 5 days... Is the Career Center option actually helpful? The nearest one is almost an hour away but I'll go if it works.

THEY DO THIS ON PURPOSE!!! The whole system is designed to make it impossible to get help so they don't have to pay out benefits. I had the EXACT same issue and wasted THREE WEEKS trying to get through. The phone system is a joke and nobody responds to messages. I bet they're hoping people just give up.

this 100% i bet they save millions by makng it impossible to get help

After dealing with the same frustrations and spending hours trying to get through to NYSDOL, I found a service called Claimyr that actually worked for me. It basically keeps dialing and navigating the phone tree for you until it gets through to an agent, then it calls you when there's a real person on the line. Saved me days of frustration. Their site is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE Once I finally got through to an agent, they fixed my "break in claim" issue in about 5 minutes. Apparently it was triggered because I reported a single day of work during one week, and the system misinterpreted that as a break.

Omg thank you! I'll check this out right now. I'm desperate enough to try anything at this point. Did you get your back payments too once they fixed the break in claim error?

i had a similar isue but mine said "break in claim" bcause i messed up ONE certification question about looking for work. took forever to fix. try calling at exactly 7:58am, thats when their system starts accepting calls, before the official 8am opening. worked for me after like 15 tries

I'll try the 7:58 trick! At this point I'll try anything. Did you press any specific options when you got through? I never know which menu choices are most likely to reach a real person.

To follow up on my earlier comment - I eventually used the Claimyr service that someone mentioned and got through to an agent. The "break in claim" issue was resolved in one call. They backdated the payments too, so I received everything I was owed in one lump sum about 2 days later. The agent told me they're having widespread issues with the partial unemployment system flagging legitimate claims incorrectly.

That's such a relief to hear you got your back payments! I'm going to try that service now because I've wasted almost two weeks trying to call myself with no luck.

I work at a community assistance center and we're seeing this issue constantly with the new partial unemployment system. The "break in claim" error is happening to about 30% of our clients right now. It's a technical glitch that only a claims specialist can fix. If you can't get through by phone, another option is to contact your state representative's office. Many of them have staff dedicated to helping constituents with unemployment issues and they can escalate your case directly to NYSDOL's internal resolution team. Make sure you have your claim ID number, the date when the payments stopped, and documentation showing you've been certifying regularly. This will speed up the resolution process once you get through to someone.

Thank you so much for this information! I hadn't thought about contacting my state rep. I'll try that approach if I can't get through on the phone this week. It's shocking that 30% of people are having this issue - you'd think they'd fix a glitch affecting so many people!

any update? did u get thru?

YES! I used that Claimyr service and finally got through yesterday! The agent said it was definitely a system error - I had no break in my claim. She fixed it on the spot and said I should receive all my back payments within 3 business days. Such a relief!
