Can calling the governor's office really help get my ny unemployment benefits reactivated?
My unemployment benefits suddenly stopped back in October 2nd and I haven't been paid since. Been trying to reach someone at the unemployment office for MONTHS with no luck. Someone at my church told me I could actually call the governor's office directly and they might be able to help get my benefits reinstated plus all the back pay I'm owed (about $4,320 now). Has anyone actually tried this? Is there a specific time during the day that's better to call? I'm desperate at this point - rent is due in 2 weeks and I'm completely broke. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Yes calling the governors office can help. They have a special line for constituent services. I was in the same boat, no benefits since November and over $3,800 in backpay owed. Called the governors office last Tuesday around 10am, explained my situation. They took my info and said they'd forward it to NYSDOL. Got a call back from unemployment 2 days later and my benefits were reactivated by Friday! All my backpay hit my account Monday morning. Definitely worth trying.

•Wow that's amazing! Do you happen to have the number you called? And did they ask for a lot of documentation?

•Just google NY governor's office constituent services. They just asked for my name, contact info, and claim ID. They don't handle it themselves - they just escalate it to someone at unemployment who can actually help.

•100% real. The governors office has direct lines to the department heads. That's why it works.

I found a better solution that worked for me. Used this service called Claimyr that calls unemployment for you and stays on hold, then connects you with a live agent when someone picks up. Saved me hours of frustration and talking to an agent got my $ unlocked so fast. Check out their demo: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE - it was the only way I could talk to a live agent after trying for weeks.

•sounds too good to be true... another unemployment scam? 🤔

•not a scam at all. I was skeptical too but it actually works. they just call and wait on hold for you then ring your phone when an agent picks up. saved me literal hours of my life.

•wait so they just call for you? how does that even work?

•you go to claimyr.com, they call unemployment and wait on hold, then when an agent finally answers they connect the call to your phone. i was able to explain my situation to the agent and got everything fixed in one call.

•Yeah I actually used it last month. It works exactly like they say. Finally got my claim moving after being stuck for 2 months.

I tried calling the governor's office 3 times and got nowhere. Complete waste of time. They just took my info and said someone would call back. It's been 3 weeks...still waiting 🤡

The real trick is to contact your state assembly person or state senator's office. They have dedicated staff who deal with unemployment issues. I was getting nowhere for 2 months, called my assemblyman's office, and my claim was fixed within a week. They have direct contacts at NYSDOL that regular people don't have access to.

•How do I find out who my assembly person is? I'm not really into politics.

•Just google "find my NY state assembly member" and there's a search by address. Takes 2 minutes. Then call their office and say you need help with an unemployment claim.

Here's what worked for me and many others dealing with ny unemployment problems: First, document EVERYTHING. Every call, every email, every person you speak with. Keep a log with dates, times, and names. Second, try multiple contact methods simultaneously: - Call the main unemployment line (yes it's frustrating but keep trying) - Use Claimyr.com to get a callback from an agent (this worked amazingly well for me) - Email your state representative AND state senator (both, not just one) - Contact the governor's office constituent services - File a complaint with the Department of Labor Third, be extremely specific about what you need. Don't just say "I need help" - say exactly what's wrong, when it started, and what resolution you're seeking. Fourth, be persistent but polite. The people you eventually speak with didn't cause the problem and are your best allies in fixing it. In my case, using Claimyr to get through to an agent was what finally worked after 7 weeks of trying everything else. The agent was able to see that my account had been flagged for review due to a system error and fixed it on the spot. Don't give up! The system is broken, but there are ways through it.

•It's a service that calls unemployment for you and waits on hold so you don't have to. When they get through to an agent, they connect the call to your phone. claimyr.com is their website. Totally worth it when you're desperate to talk to someone.

I just called the governors office yesterday about my missing benefits from August. They were nice but basically just said they would "pass the info along" to unemployment. Not holding my breath tbh.

the whole ny unemployment system is TRASH. i've been trying for 3 months to get my benefits back after they randomly stopped. called every day, sent emails, even went to the office in person (they wouldn't let me in lol). nothing works.

•Have you tried calling right when they open? I heard that's the best time to get through.

•Tried at opening, lunch time, an hour b4 closing, literally every possible time. Either busy signal or 3+ hour hold times and then disconnected 🤬

•Try claimyr.com - it's the only thing that worked for me after trying everything else.

I actually work for a state agency (not unemployment). Here's some insider info: The governor's office CAN help but it's not direct. What happens is they send an inquiry to the commissioner's office at DOL, who then sends it down the chain. It can work but takes time. Fastest options in order: 1) State representative 2) Using a service like Claimyr to get through directly 3) Governor's office 4) Regular phone lines

Calling early in the day (8-8:30am) to any office is usually best. That's when staff are freshest and call volumes lowest. Avoid Mondays and Fridays though - always the highest volume days for government offices.

Random but what county are you in? I've noticed people in different counties have different experiences with getting through.

The governor can't do anything directly. It's just another way to get your claim escalated to someone who can actually help. I found using claimyr.com was way faster - got me connected with a real agent in unemployment who fixed my issue on the spot!

Certified letter. Send a certified letter to the commissioner of labor with all your info and details. My cousin did this and got a call back within 3 days. Something about the legal paper trail makes them take it more seriously.

•This is actually smart. They probably have procedures they have to follow when they get official mail.

all these suggestions are nice but nothing beats actually getting a live person on the phone who can fix ur account. i used claimyr.com after reading about it on reddit and it was the best decision ever. finally got through to a real agent who fixed my account in minutes after months of trying.
