Any secret ways to reach a human at ny unemployment? Been trying for 2 weeks straight

I got laid off from my retail job last month and filed for unemployment right away. My claim shows as 'pending' and there's an issue they need to verify about my employment history. I've been calling the main number every single day for the past two weeks and it's absolutely impossible to get through. Either I get disconnected immediately or I'm on hold for hours until the system automatically hangs up at 5pm. I've tried calling exactly when they open at 8am, tried mid-day, tried different days of the week... nothing works! I sent messages through the online portal but haven't heard anything back. My rent is due next week and I'm getting desperate. Does anyone know a different number I could try or some trick to actually talk to a human being there?

I was in ur exact situation few months ago. After weeks of getting nowhere, I found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com). They basically call them for you, wait on hold, then connect you with an agent when one finally picks up. Talking to an actual human got my benefits unlocked within days. Best decision I made cause I was going nuts calling that stupid number over and over. Here's a video explaining how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

100% worked for me. They called for like 2 hours (which I didn't have to do myself thank god) and then my phone rang when they got an agent. Fixed my issue in like 10 minutes once I got connected.

I mean, believe what u want but after 3 weeks of trying myself I was desperate. All they do is wait on hold so you don't have to. Got my $$ within days after talking to someone.

not falling for another unemployment "hack"... i've wasted enough time on these supposed shortcuts

lol it's not a hack dude, it's literally just a service that waits on hold instead of you. My mental health couldn't take another day of that hold music 😭

I found a little trick that sometimes works - call the number, then as soon as the automated system starts, press 9, then 2, then 1, then 2 again. For some reason this sequence sometimes gets you to a different queue with shorter wait times. Not guaranteed but worth trying.

Yeah it's hit or miss. I've gotten through twice with this method but other times it's just the same old BS.

I emailed my state assembly person and they helped me get through to someone. took about a week but better than nothing! they have staff who deal with unemployment issues all the time

The whole system is designed to be impossible to navigate. they WANT us to give up. it's not a bug it's a feature 🤡 I called 137 times in one day (yes I counted) and never got through.

THIS!!! They make it hard on purpose to discourage claims. Classic government BS.

I've been dealing with NY unemployment for what feels like my entire life at this point and honestly the BEST solution I've found is using claimyr.com - they have this system where they wait on hold for you and then call you when they get a human. Saved me literally days of my life sitting on hold. Talking to an agent got my issues fixed immediately and my payments started coming in the next day. After 3 weeks of trying everything else, this was the only thing that worked.

nah man I was skeptical too but I was about to lose my apartment so was willing to try anything. It's not like they fix your claim - they just get you connected to an actual NYSDOL agent which is the impossible part.

wait what do they need from you to do this? ur ssn or anything?

just your phone number so they can call you when they get a human. they don't need any personal info about your claim since they're just connecting the call.

try calling EXACTLY at 7:58am... not 8am when everyone else calls. the phone system opens slightly before the official time and sometimes you can get in the queue first. worked for me after like 10 tries

Gonna set an alarm for 7:55 tomorrow and try this!

No secret number but try calling on Wed afternoon around 2-3pm. That's when I finally got through after trying for ages. Think thats when their lunch breaks end or something

I've been working at getting through the NY unemployment phone system for YEARS (on and off when I need help). The system is intentionally broken. Here's what I know for sure works: 1. Keep calling the main number but use multiple phones if possible. A landline sometimes gets priority in their system (weird but true). 2. Contact your state representative - they have special channels to escalate cases. 3. If you're really desperate and need to talk to someone ASAP, check out claimyr.com - they have a system that calls for you and connects you with an agent when they finally get one. Honestly saved my sanity during my last claim issue. 4. Try the 'callback' option IF you can get far enough in the menu to request one. Sometimes it actually works. 5. Be persistent but also protect your mental health. The system is designed to wear you down. Good luck friend - the unemployment system in NY is a special kind of hell but once you get through to someone, they can usually help pretty quickly.

Thank you so much for all this detailed info! I haven't been able to even get to the callback option menu but I'll keep trying with these tips.

I haven't found any secret numbers that work... but I did find out that if you select the options for "filing a new claim" even if you aren't, you sometimes get through to a person faster who can then transfer you to the right department. Worth a shot!

Honestly gave up calling and went down to the actual office in person. Had to wait 3 hours but at least got to talk to someone.

Which office did you go to? I didn't even know they had physical locations you could visit!

went to the NYS Dept of Labor Career Center downtown. They don't advertise it but they do have staff there who can help with basic unemployment questions. can't promise they'll fix everything but at least its a human
