ugh the whole system is so confusing! I've been trying to figure out if I qualify too and the NYS Department of Labor website is impossible to navigate. Been trying to call them for weeks but can never get through.
I had the same problem with reaching them by phone until someone told me about Claimyr. It's a service that helps you get through to NYS Department of Labor agents - you can check it out at claimyr.com. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Saved me hours of calling and getting busy signals.
Just wanted to add that when I got laid off from my warehouse job after only 6 weeks, I was still eligible because I had worked construction the year before. The NYS Department of Labor looks at your whole work history during the base period, not just your most recent job. Don't stress too much about the 4 months - you should be fine especially with your restaurant experience.
Just wanted to add that once your claim is approved, you'll start receiving payments pretty quickly. The waiting is definitely the hardest part. Make sure you keep filing your weekly claims even while it's pending - that's really important.
Wait, I'm confused - do I need to file weekly claims before my initial claim is even approved? I thought I was supposed to wait until they told me I was eligible first??
I've been trying to get through to NYS Department of Labor for weeks to check on my claim status and it's impossible! The phone lines are always busy and when I do get through I get disconnected. Someone told me about this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helps you get through to unemployment agents. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI showing how it works. Might be worth checking out if you need to talk to someone at NYS Department of Labor.

Speaking of economic worries, this reminds me of when I was laid off in 2008. Back then I was so stressed about everything - the housing market, unemployment running out, finding another job. But honestly the NYS Department of Labor benefits kept coming as long as I did my job search requirements and weekly certifications. The state unemployment fund is separate from federal monetary policy.

To directly answer your question - no, interest rate changes won't affect your current benefit amount or duration. New York's unemployment insurance is funded by employer taxes, not federal programs. Focus on continuing your job search and filing your weekly claims on time. The economic uncertainty is stressful but your existing claim should continue normally.

•Thanks, that's reassuring. I'll keep doing my weekly certifications and job search log like normal. Just needed to hear that from someone who knows the system.
