I'm dealing with the exact same issue right now! Week 4 for me and it's driving me insane. The mother's maiden name rejection is so common - I've read about it happening to tons of people. What's really helped me understand the problem is realizing these systems are pulling from like 5 different databases (credit reports, DMV, Social Security, etc.) and they're all inconsistent. I tried every spelling variation too before getting locked out. Right now I'm waiting to hear back from my state senator's office - I called them yesterday and they said they have a direct line to DOL that bypasses all the phone hell. Also going to check my credit reports today to see what maiden name they have on file there. The whole system is designed to frustrate people into giving up, but we can't let them win! Keep us posted on what works for you.
Oh wow, I'm so glad I'm not the only one going through this! Week 4 sounds just as frustrating as my situation. That's a really good point about the multiple databases - I never realized they were pulling from so many different sources. That totally explains why the "correct" answer might not actually be what we think it is. Definitely let me know how it goes with your state senator's office! I'm planning to contact my assembly member tomorrow too. And yes, checking credit reports seems like such a smart move - I'm going to do that today. This whole experience has been so demoralizing but reading everyone's responses here gives me hope that there are actual solutions. We definitely can't let this broken system win!
This is such a nightmare! I went through something similar last year and it turns out the system had my mom's maiden name spelled with a "y" instead of an "i" from some old DMV record. What finally worked for me was using a combination of approaches - I contacted my assembly member's office AND used that Claimyr service people are mentioning to get through to an actual human at DOL. The assembly member's office took about 5 days to respond, but Claimyr got me connected to someone within 2 hours who could see exactly what data they had on file. Turns out they were pulling from an old credit application where I had accidentally misspelled it years ago! The agent was able to override the system and verify my identity manually. Cost me like $20 for the Claimyr service but honestly worth every penny after weeks of frustration. Also definitely check your credit reports - all three bureaus - because that's apparently where a lot of these verification questions come from and there could be errors you don't even know about.
This is exactly the kind of detailed help I needed! The idea that they might have a misspelled version from an old credit application makes so much sense - I've probably filled out dozens of forms over the years and could have easily made a typo somewhere. The combination approach of assembly member + Claimyr sounds like a solid backup plan too. $20 is nothing compared to 6+ weeks without benefits! I'm definitely going to pull all three credit reports today and see what's actually on file. Thanks for sharing your experience - it gives me real hope that this is actually solvable and I'm not just stuck in bureaucratic hell forever.
I'm going through the exact same thing right now! Filed in mid-November and still stuck in pending adjudication. What's really frustrating is how little information they give you about what's actually happening or when you might hear back. I've been keeping detailed records of all my weekly certifications and any correspondence, just in case there are issues later. Have you tried reaching out to your local career center? Sometimes they can provide updates or at least help you understand what stage your claim is in. Hang in there - I know how stressful it is when bills are piling up and you're just waiting in limbo.
I'm in almost the exact same boat - filed in early November too and still pending! It's so frustrating not knowing what's happening behind the scenes. I haven't tried the local career center yet, that's actually a really good idea. Did they give you any insight into your case when you contacted them? I'm definitely keeping records of everything too, seems like that's the smart move with how unpredictable this process has been.
I'm so sorry you're going through this stress - 6 weeks without any payment is really tough, especially during the holidays. One thing that might help is contacting your state assemblyperson or senator's office. They often have constituent services that can make inquiries on your behalf to NYS DOL and sometimes get faster responses than individuals calling directly. Also, if you haven't already, make sure you have documentation of your layoff (like a layoff notice or separation letter) readily available in case they request it. The fact that 30 people were laid off should actually work in your favor since it clearly establishes the reason for separation. Keep hanging in there and definitely keep doing those weekly certifications!
Been through this exact same situation last year! Since your effective days are decreasing, that's actually a good sign - it means NYS has processed your certification and released the payment. With direct deposit, you should see it hit your account within 1-2 business days from when those days started going down. The $421 weekly benefit is pretty solid btw. Just keep an eye on your payment history section in the portal - once it shows "paid" status you know it's on the way to your bank. If nothing shows up by Wednesday I'd definitely call or try that claimyr service people mentioned.
Just report everything honestly on your weekly claim and you'll be fine. The system is designed to handle partial unemployment situations. Better to over-report than under-report!
I went through this exact situation a few months ago! The key thing is to report your part-time work on your weekly certification - you'll enter your gross wages and hours worked. The system will automatically calculate your partial benefit amount. Don't worry about calling them unless you have specific questions - the online form handles partial unemployment calculations pretty well. Just make sure you report the work for the week you actually performed it, not when you got paid. You're doing the right thing by being proactive about this!
This is super helpful! I was getting confused about the timing - so if I worked Monday through Wednesday this week, I report those hours on this week's claim even if I won't get paid until next Friday? And do you know roughly what the earnings threshold is before you lose all benefits? I'm making about $300/week at 20 hours so I'm hoping I can still get something.

I had the exact same issue with the identity verification! What finally worked for me was using a different device entirely - I was trying on my phone and kept getting errors, but when I switched to my laptop it went through immediately. Also make sure you're using the most recent version of your browser. The NYS DOL system seems really finicky about browser compatibility for identity verification uploads.

•That's a great point about switching devices! I've been trying on my phone this whole time. Going to try my laptop tonight and see if that helps with the identity verification. Did you have to re-upload all your documents from scratch when you switched devices, or did the system save your progress?

I've been dealing with identity verification issues too and found a few things that helped. First, make sure your documents are saved at high resolution - the system sometimes rejects blurry or low-quality images even if they look fine to you. Second, try uploading one document at a time rather than all at once. I kept getting timeouts when trying to upload multiple files together. Also, if you're still getting the "error processing request" message, try logging out completely, clearing your cookies, and logging back in. Sometimes the session gets corrupted and a fresh login fixes the upload issues. Hope this helps!
