I was struggling to get through to NYS Department of Labor to understand my rate calculation and someone recommended using Claimyr at claimyr.com to help get connected to an agent. They have this demo video at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Ended up getting through to someone who explained the whole experience rating formula in detail. Much easier than trying to call directly and getting busy signals.
If you're having trouble reaching the NYS Department of Labor by phone for specific questions, I recently discovered Claimyr (claimyr.com) which helps you get through to an actual agent. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Really helpful when you need to speak to someone about your specific situation instead of waiting on hold for hours.
Just want to add that if you were laid off vs fired, it makes a big difference for eligibility. Layoffs are usually straightforward, but if you were terminated for cause you might face a disqualification period. Also, if you have any severance pay, that could affect when your benefits start.
You need to call NYS Department of Labor directly to find out what's causing the payment delay. The online system doesn't always show all the details. I had a similar situation where my benefits were held up due to an employer response they received. Getting through to someone on the phone is tough though - I had to call at 8am sharp when they opened and still waited 45 minutes.
Calling is such a nightmare! I've been trying for days and either get disconnected or the hold time is hours. There has to be a better way to reach them.
I actually found a service called Claimyr that helped me get through to NYS Department of Labor agents much faster. You can check it out at claimyr.com - they have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. I was skeptical at first but it actually connected me to an agent in about 15 minutes when I couldn't get through on my own.
If you're having trouble getting through to NYS Department of Labor to check your claim status or ask questions, I had good luck using a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com). They help you get connected to an actual agent instead of waiting on hold forever. There's a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Really saved me a lot of frustration when my claim was stuck in adjudication.

If you do get fired and NYS Department of Labor initially denies your claim, don't give up! You have the right to appeal their decision. I had to go through the appeal process when I got terminated and it was worth it. The hearing officer was fair and looked at all the evidence. Just make sure you file your weekly claims even during the appeal process.

•How long does the appeal process usually take? I'm worried about paying rent if this drags on for months.

•Mine took about 6 weeks total, but if you win the appeal you get back pay for all the weeks you were eligible. The key is to keep filing your weekly claims during the whole process.

•That sounds helpful! The few times I've tried calling NYS Department of Labor for other things I could never get through.
