eBay 1099 sent to wrong person (my son) - How to fix with IRS?
Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle. My 1099 from eBay got sent to my son instead of me. It's definitely mine, but somehow it ended up with his name on it. Has anyone dealt with this before? I'm not sure how to go about fixing this with the IRS. Any advice would be really appreciated!

Oof, that's a tough one. I'd suggest calling the IRS directly to explain the situation. They should be able to help you correct the error. Make sure you have all the relevant info ready when you call - your SSN, your son's SSN, and any details about the eBay transactions.

•Yeah, calling the IRS can be a real pain. Have you tried calling early in the morning? Sometimes that works better.

I had a similar issue last year with a 1099 from my side gig. Here's what worked for me: 1. Contact eBay first. They might be able to reissue the 1099 with the correct info. 2. If eBay can't help, call the IRS (be prepared to wait). 3. Explain the situation clearly and ask for a correction. 4. They might ask you to file a Form 4506-T to request the correction. 5. Keep all documentation of your attempts to fix this. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions.

•Wow, thank you so much for the detailed response! I'll definitely try contacting eBay first. Fingers crossed they can just fix it on their end.

•This is great advice. I'd add that you should also inform your son about this so he doesn't accidentally report that income on his taxes.

Have you tried using the IRS website? Sometimes you can resolve issues like this online without having to call.

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c

•Sounds too good to be true. Does it really work?

•Yeah, it actually does! I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of hold time.

This happened to my cousin last year. It was a nightmare to fix. Took him months of back and forth with the IRS. Good luck, OP!
