Will IRS transcript show if refund has an offset before deposit date?
My transcript shows a refund coming on March 12th but I'm worried about a possible offset. Would the transcript show the offset already or will I just find out when the deposit date comes and I get less money or nothing at all?

Yes, if there's an offset it would show up on your transcript as a reduction before the scheduled deposit date. Look for transaction codes 898 or 898-07. These indicate money being taken for past due federal or state debts. The remaining amount after offset would be what gets deposited.

•Not always true. Sometimes offsets happen last minute and dont show up until after the deposit date.

•Good point. The BFS (Bureau of Fiscal Service) can grab it right before deposit. But usually you'd know if you have outstanding federal debts

you can also call the treasury offset program hotline at 800-304-3107. It will tell you if you have any outstanding debts that might get offset

I had child support offset last year and it showed up as code 898 like a week b4 deposit date. But my friend had student loans and it got taken without warning so idk 🤷♀️

just went thru this. if its federal debt itll usually show up but state debts can be sneaky. might wanna check with your state treasury too
