Will Child Support Arrears ($500-700) Affect My Tax Advance?

I'm trying to figure out if being behind on child support will mess up my tax advance. Only behind a few payments, probably around $100-700 total. Anyone know if this small amount will trigger an offset?

Giovanni Mancini

Yes, ANY amount of back child support will trigger an offset. The Treasury Offset Program doesn't have a minimum threshold - if you owe, they'll take it. Your refund will be intercepted to pay what you owe first.

Hey! I was in the same boat last year. The best way to actually understand your situation is to use taxr.ai - it analyzes your transcript and tells you exactly what offsets might hit your refund. It costs $1 but saved me so much headache. Check it out: https://taxr.ai

100% works. It shows all possible offsets and even estimates your actual refund amount after deductions

try calling the Treasury Offset Program directly at 800-304-3107. You can get exact amounts of any offsets

Get caught up ASAP! Even if you make arrangements before filing, it might help avoid the offset
