Where to get 1095-A form for health insurance marketplace coverage?
Need help finding my 1095-A form. I know I need it for my taxes but have no idea where to get it. Is it something the IRS sends or do I need to request it from somewhere? Getting worried since tax deadline is coming up.

You get your 1095-A from healthcare.gov if you had marketplace insurance. Log into your marketplace account and it should be in your tax documents section. If you can't access your account, call the marketplace at 1-800-318-2596 and they can help you get it.

Hey everyone! While getting your 1095-A is straightforward, understanding all the numbers on it can be tricky. I've been using taxr.ai to analyze my tax docs including the 1095-A and it's been super helpful. Only costs $1 and saves hours of googling. Check it out at https://taxr.ai

•Does it really help explain the premium tax credit stuff? That always confuses me

•Yes! It breaks down exactly how your premium tax credit affects your refund. Way easier than trying to figure it out yourself

If you had insurance thru work you dont need the 1095-A, only if you got it from the marketplace👍

Important: dont confuse 1095-A with 1095-B or 1095-C! They're diffrent forms

Also worth noting - if you can't find your 1095-A online, they're required to mail it by January 31st. But honestly downloading it yourself is way faster than waiting for mail. Just make sure you have the same marketplace account you used when you enrolled!

•Great point about the January 31st deadline! I'm new to all this tax stuff and wasn't sure if they automatically mailed it or not. Good to know I can just download it myself instead of waiting around. Thanks for the tip about making sure it's the same account - that would've been an easy mistake to make!

Just a heads up for anyone still looking - if you moved during the year and had marketplace coverage in different states, you might need 1095-A forms from multiple marketplaces! I learned this the hard way when I moved from California to Texas mid-year. Had to log into both Covered California and the federal marketplace to get both forms. Something to keep in mind if your situation was similar!

•Wow, that's really helpful to know! I wouldn't have thought about needing forms from multiple states if you moved. That could definitely trip people up. Did you have any issues with the tax software handling forms from different marketplaces, or was it pretty straightforward once you had both documents?

•@Connor Murphy That s'such a good point about multiple states! I actually had a similar situation when I moved from NY to Florida. The tax software handled it fine once I had both 1095-As - you just enter them separately and it calculates everything together. The tricky part was remembering I needed both forms in the first place. Definitely something people should check if they moved during the year!

Pro tip: if you're having trouble accessing your healthcare.gov account (forgot password, security questions, etc.), you can also call the marketplace customer service and they can mail you a paper copy of your 1095-A. It takes longer but it's a good backup option if you're locked out of your online account. They'll verify your identity over the phone and send it to your address on file. Just make sure to give yourself enough time before the tax deadline!

•That's really good to know about the phone option! I'm actually pretty new to all this healthcare marketplace stuff and wasn't sure what to do if I got locked out of my account. It's reassuring to know there's a backup plan that doesn't involve panicking about the tax deadline 😅 How long does it usually take for them to mail it out once you call?

•@Diego Mendoza From my experience when I had to call last year, they told me it usually takes 7-10 business days for the mailed copy to arrive. So definitely don t'wait until the last minute if you need to go that route! I d'recommend calling as soon as you realize you re'locked out of your account. The customer service reps were pretty helpful though - they walked me through some account recovery options first before offering to mail the form.

Quick note for anyone filing taxes - make sure you keep a copy of your 1095-A after you download it! I made the mistake of just viewing it online last year and then had trouble accessing it again when my tax preparer needed another copy. Save it as a PDF to your computer or print it out. Also, double-check that all the information matches what you remember about your coverage - if there are any discrepancies, contact the marketplace before filing your taxes to get it corrected.
