Where can I find my AGI from FreeTaxUSA from last year? Need it for filing on a different website
I've been struggling to locate my AGI from when I filed with FreeTaxUSA last year. I tried logging into my previous year account, but it just says something about autofilling it when I file again this year. The problem is I'm switching to a different tax filing service this time around and they're asking for my AGI from last year to verify my identity. I'm willing to pay whatever fee if necessary to access this information right now. I just want to get my taxes done and submitted. This is holding up the whole process and tax day is getting closer! Does anyone know how to retrieve the AGI from FreeTaxUSA when you're not using them again? Any help would be seriously appreciated!

The AGI (Adjusted Gross Income) from your previous year's return is an important verification number when e-filing. There are a few ways to get your AGI from FreeTaxUSA without paying: 1. Log into your FreeTaxUSA account and navigate to the "Prior Years" section. Even though it says it will autofill when you file, you should still be able to view your completed return from last year. Open that return and look for your AGI - it's on line 11 of the 1040 form from 2023 tax year. 2. If you saved or printed a PDF copy of last year's return, the AGI is right there on your 1040 form (line 11). 3. If neither of these work, you can request a tax transcript from the IRS website for free. Go to IRS.gov and search for "Get Transcript Online" or call 1-800-908-9946. Most tax software just needs your AGI to verify your identity for e-filing, so it's important to have this number.

•I tried finding my AGI in the prior years section but couldn't see the actual number anywhere. Does FreeTaxUSA hide this somewhere specific? And if I do the transcript thing from the IRS, how long does that usually take? I'm trying to file by this weekend.

•If you go to your FreeTaxUSA account, click on "Prior Year Returns," then select the tax year you filed last year. Once you've opened that return, look for the "View/Print Return" button - this will generate a PDF of your actual tax return. On the Form 1040, check line 11 which shows your AGI. If you need to get a transcript from the IRS, the online method is fastest - if you can verify your identity online, you'll get immediate access to your transcript. If you request it by mail, it typically takes 5-10 business days to arrive.

I had this exact problem when switching from FreeTaxUSA to another service. After digging around, I found a solution that worked super well using taxr.ai (https://taxr.ai). It's a document analyzer that helped me extract my AGI without having to pay or wait. I uploaded my FreeTaxUSA PDF from last year (which I found in my downloads folder - totally forgot I had saved it!) and it highlighted my AGI right away. The tool basically scans tax documents and pulls out important numbers you need for filing. Saved me from having to call FreeTaxUSA customer service or wait for an IRS transcript.

•Does it work with other tax forms too? I have a bunch of investment documents and I'm always missing key numbers when I file.

•I'm a bit concerned about uploading my tax docs to a random website. How secure is this? I've had identity theft issues before so I'm super paranoid about my financial info.

•It works with pretty much all tax forms - W-2s, 1099s, and even more complex investment documents. I've used it to find specific numbers across multiple forms when gathering my tax info, and it's been a huge time-saver. Regarding security, they use bank-level encryption and don't store your documents after analysis. I was hesitant at first too, but they explain their security measures on the site. They're also SOC 2 compliant which means they've been independently audited for security practices.

Just wanted to update - I decided to try taxr.ai after all and it worked perfectly for finding my AGI! I found an old email with my FreeTaxUSA return attached (totally forgot I had that), uploaded it, and within seconds it highlighted my AGI right on line 11. Saved me from having to wait for an IRS transcript or pay for access on FreeTaxUSA. The interface was really simple and I didn't need to create an account or anything. Now I can finally finish filing my taxes on the new platform!

Another option if you can't find your AGI anywhere - call the IRS directly to get your tax transcript. I know people hate calling them because of the wait times, but I used Claimyr (https://claimyr.com) and it was surprisingly easy. They basically hold your place in line with the IRS and call you back when an agent is ready to talk. You can see how it works in this video: https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c I was skeptical but it saved me from listening to hold music for hours. The IRS agent was able to verify my identity and tell me my AGI over the phone.

•How does Claimyr actually work? Do they just sit on hold for you? Seems too good to be true considering how impossible it is to get through to the IRS.

•Yeah right. I've tried EVERYTHING to get through to the IRS and nothing works. They're perpetually understaffed and overwhelmed. I'll believe this works when pigs fly!

•They use an automated system that holds your place in the IRS phone queue. When it detects that an agent is about to pick up, it calls your phone and connects you directly to the IRS agent. It's basically just solving the long hold time problem. It absolutely works - the technology isn't anything magical, it's just automating the hold process. I was connected to an IRS agent within about 90 minutes without having to actually sit on hold myself. The IRS doesn't know or care how you waited, they just answer when it's your turn in queue.

Well I'm eating crow today. After my skeptical comment, I tried Claimyr out of desperation since I couldn't find my AGI anywhere. It actually worked! Got a call back about 2 hours later and was connected to an IRS rep who verified my identity and gave me my AGI from last year. The whole call with the IRS agent only took about 5 minutes once I was connected. Definitely beats my previous record of waiting on hold for 3+ hours only to have the call drop. Filing my taxes tonight finally!

One more simple solution - if you have a copy of last year's return (even just the PDF), your AGI is on line 11 of your Form 1040. Check your downloads folder or email - FreeTaxUSA usually emails a copy when you file. If all else fails, you can also enter $0 as your prior year AGI if you're a first-time filer OR if you didn't file last year. Some tax software also lets you verify your identity through other means if you can't provide your AGI.

•Wait, you can just put $0 if you can't find your AGI? Is that legit or will it cause problems? I'm in a similar situation and getting frustrated.

•You should only enter $0 if you truly didn't file taxes last year or if you're a first-time filer. It's not a workaround for when you can't find your AGI - the IRS will reject your return if you put incorrect information. If you filed last year, you need your actual AGI. The IRS uses it as a security verification measure to prevent fraud. Your best bet is to either access your previous return or get a tax transcript from the IRS as others have mentioned.

I think everyone's overcomplicating this. I just called FreeTaxUSA customer support at 801-717-1040 and they told me my AGI over the phone after verifying my identity. Took like 5 minutes. No need for special services or waiting for IRS transcripts.

•Did they charge you anything for that? Their website makes it seem like you need to pay for customer support if you used their free version.
