What's happening with IRS refunds tomorrow January 17th 2025?
Keep hearing about January 17th being some big day for IRS refunds but nobody is explaining why. Can someone break down what's actually supposed to happen tomorrow? Is this just another false hope or should I actually be excited?

January 17th is the official start of the 2024 tax filing season. The IRS begins accepting and processing 2024 tax returns on this date. However, this doesn't affect prior year returns that are still processing - those continue to be worked separately. Don't expect any magical mass release of old refunds tomorrow.
