Just Got Off The Phone With IRS - Updates Coming Today/Tomorrow, Deposits End of Week!
OMG I'm so relieved and anxious at the same time!!! š I FINALLY managed to get through to an actual human at the IRS after trying for DAYS (caring for my mom has made this tax season extra stressful). The representative was actually helpful for once and told me they're starting system updates TODAY and TOMORROW! š Apparently deposits should start hitting accounts by the end of this week! I've been checking my account obsessively because I desperately need this money for mom's medications. I know we all have our reasons for needing our refunds, but I'm just so tired of the IRS treating us like we don't deserve basic information about OUR MONEY. Has anyone else heard similar timelines? I'm trying not to get my hopes up too high but I literally cried after hanging up. š¬

I hate to rain on your parade, but IRS reps saying "updates are coming" is like a mechanic saying your car will be ready "soon" - it could mean anything. I've heard this same line multiple times over the years. That said, there is typically a big batch of deposits that goes out mid-week, so it's possible you'll see movement. Just don't count those chickens before they hatch. The IRS system is like a giant cargo ship - it takes a long time to change course, and individual reps often don't have visibility into the full picture.

Do you think there's anything else OP should be doing while waiting? I've been tracking my refund status obsessively too, checking the Where's My Refund tool literally every morning at 6am. Should we be checking transcripts instead? Or calling again if nothing happens by Friday?

What about those 971 codes? I have one. Does that delay things? My transcript updated last night. Still shows processing. No refund date. Very concerning.

Thx for the real talk. Been dealing w/ IRS for yrs and this is 100% accurate. Their 'soon' could mean tmrw or next month lol. WMR hasn't updated for me since Feb but transcript shows movement.

This happened to me last year! Rep told me updates were coming "this week" and I didn't see anything for another 18 days. When I finally got my refund, I realized the rep had just been trying to get me off the phone. Not saying that's happening to OP, but manage expectations. I now set a calendar reminder to check once a week instead of obsessing daily - saved my sanity.

You need to act FAST on this information! In my experience from previous tax seasons, when they say updates are coming "today and tomorrow," it means the processing batch is already queued up. Last year, I heard the same thing on a Tuesday, saw my transcript update Wednesday night, and had my deposit Friday morning. If you haven't already, you should check your transcript NOW and again first thing tomorrow morning. The cycle often runs overnight, and you don't want to miss seeing your deposit date. Time is critical here - the difference between checking at 3am versus 7am could mean knowing a day earlier when your money is coming!

I'm so frustrated with all this waiting!!! Do you really think checking at 3am makes a difference? I've been refreshing the WMR tool constantly but maybe I should focus on the transcript instead? I just want this to be over!

This is incredibly helpful information regarding the IRS processing batches. Could you clarify the difference between transcript code 846 (refund issued) and the actual deposit timing? My understanding is there's typically a 5-7 day lag between transcript updates and bank deposits.

I understand your relief at finally getting some information. Under IRS Publication 1, "Your Rights as a Taxpayer," you have the right to be informed and receive clear explanations of the laws and procedures. Many taxpayers don't realize that the IRS processing system typically runs major updates Tuesday through Thursday nights, which aligns perfectly with what you were told. While representatives cannot guarantee specific dates, their information about system updates is generally accurate. The Taxpayer Advocate Service has repeatedly highlighted communication issues as a major concern, so your frustration is completely valid and recognized by oversight agencies.

I know exactly how stressful waiting for updates can be, especially when caring for a family member. Based on my experience working with tax clients, here's what you should know: ā¢ System updates typically happen overnight between Tuesday-Thursday ā¢ Most direct deposits hit accounts 1-3 business days after the 846 code appears ā¢ Transcript updates are more reliable indicators than WMR ā¢ Bank processing times vary (credit unions often process faster) If you need to follow up and can't get through again, I've personally had great success with Claimyr (https://claimyr.com). It got me connected to an IRS agent in under 30 minutes when I needed urgent information about a client's dependent verification issue. Saved hours of redial frustration, which sounds like something you don't have time for with your caregiving responsibilities.

Has anyone checked the IRS2Go app today? According to the IRS Refund Status page (https://www.irs.gov/refunds), they do update the system overnight, so what you heard might be accurate. I'm in a similar boat and noticed the maintenance message on the website yesterday. I'm wondering if this is the big update wave that usually happens mid-filing season? Last year around this time there was a massive update that cleared a lot of pending returns all at once.

I just checked the app again and STILL nothing new! š¤ Thanks for the link though - I didn't realize they post about maintenance on the website. I'm going to keep checking that too. Hoping we're all part of this update wave! š

Did anyone else notice that the Where's My Refund tool was down for maintenance for about 30 minutes last night? Could that be part of the updates they mentioned to you? I've been checking obsessively every day (sometimes multiple times a day... is that too much?) and that was the first time I saw it down. Maybe they really are doing system updates? I filed on February 3rd and have been stuck on "still processing" for what feels like forever now.

YES! I noticed that too! I thought maybe it was just my internet being weird! That HAS to be a good sign, right?? And no, checking multiple times isn't too much - I've been doing the same thing! This waiting game is torture when you really need the money. Fingers crossed for both of us! š¤
