Transcript Updated with Code 846 - Issue Date March 22nd - Can I Trust It?

My transcript finally updated today and I see code 846 with an issue date of March 22nd. Is this actually going to happen this time? I've been waiting for what feels like forever after filing my amended return. Will the money actually hit my account on the 22nd, or is this just another step in the process? After all the delays I've already experienced, should I even get my hopes up? The IRS has been so unpredictable lately.

Good news! Code 846 is def what u want to see. It's the refund issued code and that date (3/22) is when the $ should hit ur acct. Most ppl get it that day or maybe 1-2 days before depending on ur bank. Might wanna check ur WMR status too - should update to approved soon if it hasn't already. Congrats on making it thru the wait!

Quick question about this - does this timing apply to everyone? ā€¢ Do credit unions process faster than big banks? ā€¢ Will it show pending before the actual date? ā€¢ Is there a cutoff time for when it posts? Just trying to plan when I should start checking my account...

The Direct Deposit timing varies by financial institution. Some banks like Chase and Wells Fargo may hold funds until the actual date on the transcript. Credit unions and online banks such as Chime often release funds 1-2 days early when they receive the ACH notification. The ACH processing window typically runs from 8am-5pm Eastern Time on business days, so deposits initiated late in the day may not post until the following business day.

Think of the 846 date like a promise to mail a check - it's when the IRS releases the money, not necessarily when you'll have it in hand. It's like ordering something online versus when it actually arrives at your door. Most banks will process it within 24 hours, but some treat it like a VIP package while others put it in the regular delivery queue.

According to the IRS website, code 846 is definitively a refund issued code. I've been tracking refund patterns on the r/IRS subreddit and most people report receiving funds on or 1 day before the listed date. If you're still uncertain about what your transcript codes mean, https://taxr.ai can analyze your full transcript and explain exactly what's happening with your amended return. It's especially helpful for amended returns since they have different processing patterns than regular returns.

I've seen several cases where the 846 date was accurate for direct deposit, but paper checks sometimes take 5-7 days longer than the date shown. Compared to last year's amended returns, you're actually getting processed relatively quickly. Have you verified your banking information is correct on your return? That's the most common issue I see with delayed deposits after the 846 code appears.

This happened to me last year! I had an 846 code with a date, but it turned out my bank account number was off by one digit on my return. I waited two weeks past the date before calling the IRS, and they had to reissue it. The second 846 date was accurate though.

Thanks for mentioning this. I just checked my return from February 12th and my banking info is correct. Hoping everything goes smoothly on March 22nd!

I believe the system has improved somewhat since last year. My amended return from January showed the 846 code and I received the deposit exactly on that date, possibly because I filed electronically rather than by paper.

In my experience from previous years, the 846 date has been reliable about 90% of the time. There were a couple years where it came a day early, but I've never had it come late when my banking info was correct.

When did you file your amended return? I'm still waiting on mine from December and nothing is updating. Did you have to call them? I tried calling the IRS like 20 times last week but couldn't get through at all. Has anyone tried Claimyr.com to get through to an agent? I saw someone mention it in another thread and I'm desperate enough to try anything at this point. Need my refund for car repairs ASAP.

I was skeptical about paying for a service like that too, but is it actually worth it? My amended return has been processing for exactly 97 days now with no updates. How quickly does Claimyr actually get you through to a real person?

I think you can be reasonably confident in this timeline now. The 846 code is essentially the final step in the process. The IRS has completed their review of your amended return, approved the refund amount, and scheduled the payment. While there's always a small possibility of a bank processing delay, the hard part is definitely behind you. The system is designed to release funds on the date specified, and in most cases, that's exactly what happens.

Don't spend it yet. I had 846 last year. Date came and went. Nothing in my account. Called IRS. They said bank rejected it. Had to verify identity again. Got paper check 6 weeks later. Different routing number fixed it this year. Always double-check your banking info.

Just got my refund yesterday after seeing the 846 code last week! The date on mine was 3/15 and it hit my account right on schedule. The IRS might move at the speed of a sloth climbing through molasses most of the time (looking at you, amended returns department šŸ˜‚), but once that magical 846 appears, you're in the home stretch. I was honestly shocked when it arrived exactly on time after all the horror stories I'd read online.

Are you getting a direct deposit or a paper check? That makes a big difference in when you'll actually see the money. If it's direct deposit, the 22nd is pretty reliable. For paper checks, add about a week for mailing time.
