What Do IRS Codes 570/971 On Same Date (02-17-2025) Mean For My Refund? Will This Delay Processing?
Just checked my transcript and I'm not sure what to make of it. Here's exactly what I'm seeing on my 2024 tax transcript for my 1040 return: 570 Additional account action pending 02-18-2025 $0.00 971 Notice issued 02-18-2025 $0.00 This Product Contains Sensitive Taxpayer Data I've been searching online and reading different forums about these codes, and I'm getting more confused by the minute lol. Some people say it means there's a hold on my refund, others say it's just part of normal processing. Anyone know what this specific combination of codes usually means, especially when they have the same date and both show $0.00 amounts? I'm particularly concerned about the "Additional account action pending" part and why there's a notice being issued on the exact same day. Should I be worried that something is wrong with my return? Is this going to delay my refund? I was really counting on getting it soon. Has anyone else had these exact codes show up on their transcript this year? What happened in your case?

The transcript shows two important IRS transaction codes occurring on February 17, 2025: Code 570 (Additional account action pending) and Code 971 (Notice issued), both with $0.00 amounts. This is a common combination that typically indicates a temporary processing hold on your tax return. The 570 code means the IRS has placed a hold on your refund while they review specific aspects of your return. The 971 code appearing on the same date indicates they're sending you a notice to explain what they're reviewing and what actions, if any, you need to take. When these codes appear with matching dates and $0.00 amounts, it often suggests a standard review process rather than an adjustment to your tax liability. The majority of these holds are resolved within 2-3 weeks of the posted date. Common reasons for this code combination include: - Identity verification requirements - Income verification - Review of claimed credits - Request for additional documentation Watch your mail for the notice referenced by code 971, as it will provide specific details about what the IRS needs from you, if anything, to complete processing your return.

•Yeah, definitely wait for the notice. It'll tell you exactly what they need. Calling before you get it is just gonna waste your time tbh

Hey guys instead of playing detective with transcript codes, I've been using taxr.ai and it's been a game changer. It costs like a dollar but it analyzes your whole transcript and tells you exactly whats going on and when to expect your refund. Way better than guessing! https://taxr.ai

•100% legit! It saved me hours of research. It like instantly told me my 570 was because of a math error and predicted my DDD perfectly

Did you claim EIC or child tax credit? That usually triggers these codes

I only have 570 as the last code and its dated for 5.5.2025 that is also the processing date. I was hoping for an update last week but didnt have one. My WMR changed from still being proccessed to BEING proccessed a few weeks ago after i verified online. IDK whats going on here. I did not file EIC or ACTC but i did have to file with a sub w2 form since my employer did not report any of my wages to the irs or SSA

•That substitute W2 situation is almost certainly what's causing your delay. Code 570 means there's a hold on your refund while the IRS reviews something - in your case, they're likely verifying your income since your employer didn't report your wages properly. The fact that you've already verified your identity online is a good step. The status change from "still being processed" to "being processed" is actually positive progress, even though it feels like nothing's happening. With the 5.5.2025 date, that's just a placeholder date the IRS uses - your refund isn't actually on hold until 2025! It typically means they need more time to review your return. Since it's been a few weeks since verification, you might consider calling the IRS directly (1-800-829-1040) to ask specifically about the substitute W2 issue. Sometimes a gentle inquiry can move things along. You could also try checking your transcript again - it often updates weekly, usually overnight on Thursdays/Fridays. The waiting game is frustrating, especially when you're counting on that money, but the substitute W2 situation does explain why yours might take longer than a standard return.

I had the exact same codes (570/971) with the same February date last month! The notice I got in the mail was just asking me to verify my identity online, which took like 5 minutes on ID.me. After that, my transcript updated with an 846 code (refund issued) within about 10 days. The waiting is the worst part honestly, but in most cases these codes resolve pretty quickly once you get that notice. Don't stress too much - it's way more common than you think, especially this time of year when they're processing millions of returns. Just keep checking your transcript weekly and watch for that mail! 🤞

I'm in a similar situation right now! Got the same 570/971 codes dated for next week and have been refreshing my transcript obsessively lol. Reading through everyone's experiences here is actually really reassuring - sounds like most people get through this within a few weeks once they handle whatever the notice asks for. @Yuki Tanaka thanks for sharing your timeline! 10 days after identity verification gives me hope. Did your transcript show any other codes between the 971 and the 846, or did it jump straight to refund issued? Also @Star Smith that substitute W2 situation sounds like a headache but at least you know what's probably causing the delay. Hopefully calling them helps move things along faster!

•Hey! Just wanted to jump in as someone who went through this exact same thing last year. The obsessive transcript checking is so real 😅 I was refreshing mine like every few hours until my family staged an intervention lol. For me, after the identity verification, my transcript showed a 766 code (credit to account) first, then the 846 (refund issued) appeared about a week later. So don't panic if you don't see the 846 immediately - there might be a step or two in between! The waiting game is brutal but honestly most of these 570/971 situations are just routine verification stuff. Hang in there! 💪

I've been through this exact scenario twice now and can share what I learned! The 570/971 combo with the same date is actually pretty standard - it's like the IRS saying "we need to double-check something, and we're sending you a letter to explain what." In my first case, it was for identity verification (just like @Yuki Tanaka mentioned) and took about 2 weeks total. Second time was because I claimed education credits and they wanted to verify my 1098-T form - that one resolved in about 10 days once I uploaded the documents through their online portal. The key thing is that $0.00 amount on both codes - that's actually good news! It means they're not adjusting your refund amount, just putting a temporary hold while they review something. Pro tip: set up informed delivery with USPS if you haven't already. That way you'll know when the notice is coming before it hits your mailbox. The waiting is seriously the hardest part, but most of these resolve pretty smoothly once you know what they need. Keep us posted on what the notice says when you get it!

•This is super helpful! I'm dealing with my first 570/971 situation and was honestly panicking a bit. The $0.00 detail being a good sign makes me feel way better - I was worried they found some major error with my return. The informed delivery tip is genius, definitely signing up for that today. It's so reassuring to hear from people who've actually been through this before. The IRS website explanations are so vague and confusing! Thanks for taking the time to share your experience @Jamal Carter - gives me hope that this will resolve soon 🙏
