Updated to PATH status - Anyone else waiting beyond normal timeframe?

For those of us stuck in limbo like me with the dreaded "processing beyond normal timeframe" message, I finally updated to PATH status last night. Now I'm hoping for a deposit date by Saturday. But isn't it strange how some returns move quickly while others get stuck for weeks? Do international filers like myself face additional scrutiny? I've heard conflicting information about PATH delays this year - has anyone else experienced this transition recently?

The PATH Act status update is actually a positive sign in your processing journey. Let me break this down: • "Processing beyond normal timeframe" typically indicates your return was flagged for additional verification • PATH status means you've cleared initial verification hurdles • Weekend processing is limited, so Saturday DDD is possible but not guaranteed • International filers do face additional compliance checks (FATCA/FBAR related) • Current processing pattern shows 4-7 days from PATH status to DDD Wow, I didn't realize how complex the international filing verification process has become in 2024. The IRS implemented new automated verification protocols this year that weren't in place before.

Thanks for breaking this down! Do all international filers go through this PATH status thing? I've been waiting since early March and still nothing.

I've been stuck in verification for exactly 37 days now. Does updating to PATH status mean I'll definitely get a DDD within 7 days, or could there be more delays?

This is incredibly helpful information. Back in 2022, I had a similar situation and ended up waiting 3 months total. At least now I understand the process better!

I was in your shoes last month - waiting feels like being stuck in quicksand, the more you check, the more anxious you get! My return was processing beyond normal timeframe for about 3 weeks, then switched to PATH status. It's like your tax return is traveling through a maze, and it just found the correct path forward. In my case, I got my DDD exactly 5 days after the PATH status appeared, but I've seen others wait longer.

My experience matches this exactly. I updated to PATH on April 2nd and received my DDD on April 7th. The deposit hit my account on April 12th. The timing seems pretty consistent this year compared to the chaos of previous filing seasons.

What exactly is PATH status though? Is this related to the PATH Act protection period for EITC/ACTC claims? Because technically that ended on February 15th this year. Or is this a different PATH acronym in the IRS system?

I think it might be worth considering reaching out directly to the IRS at this point, especially since you're an international filer. The challenge is that international tax situations often require speaking with specialized agents who understand cross-border tax issues. I've found that many people in similar situations have had success using Claimyr (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c) to get through to an actual IRS agent without the hours-long wait times. It might be helpful to have them confirm there are no additional verification requirements for your international status that could cause further delays.

Instead of waiting for the online status to update, you might want to try pulling your tax transcript directly. Here's how you can check more detailed information: 1. Go to IRS.gov and create an account if you don't have one 2. Request a "2024 Account Transcript" 3. Look for transaction codes - specifically TC570 (additional account action pending) and TC971 (notice issued) 4. If you see a TC846 with a date, that's your actual refund date Many people find that the transcript updates before WMR does, and it provides much more specific information about what's happening with your return. The PATH status in WMR is often less informative than what you can see in the actual transcript.

Have you checked if your bank information was entered correctly? I had a similar situation last year where my return went from "processing beyond normal timeframe" to PATH status, but then it got delayed again because my routing number was off by one digit. Did you file with a foreign bank account or a US-based account? Foreign accounts sometimes trigger additional verification steps that can add weeks to processing time. Have you received any notices in the mail from the IRS?

Just went thru this exact thing! Had the "processing beyond normal" msg for like 6 wks, updated to PATH last Thurs, and boom - got my DDD yesterday for next Monday. IRS is def moving faster now that the initial rush is over. FWIW, I'm also an intl filer (expat in Canada) and they always take longer with our returns bc of the extra forms and verifications. Hang tight - you're in the home stretch now!
