TurboTax Filers: Did Refund Arrive on DDD or Day After?

Quick question for anyone who filed through TurboTax this year - did your refund actually hit your account on your Direct Deposit Date (DDD) or did it come the next day? WMR is showing tomorrow as my DDD but I'm trying to figure out if I should expect it tomorrow or Friday. Thanks!

Mine came exactly on the DDD. Filed with TurboTax on January 29, transcript updated with 846 code and DDD of Feb 14, and the money was in my account first thing that morning. Some banks process faster than others though.

Day after for me. My DDD was March 6th but the money showed up March 7th around 3am. I think it depends on your bank more than TurboTax though. Who do you bank with?

I'm with Chase. Just anxious because I need this money for some car repairs and was hoping to schedule that for tomorrow if the deposit hits.

I've used TurboTax for the last 5 years. It's completely dependent on your bank's processing time. Credit unions tend to post deposits faster than big banks. My DDD was 2/28 and I bank with a local credit union - got my deposit at 11:30pm the night BEFORE my actual DDD. But when I used to bank with Wells Fargo, it would always be the day after.

If you want to understand exactly what's happening with your refund timeline, check out https://taxr.ai - it analyzes your transcript and explains all the codes. I was confused about my DDD this year since my transcript showed multiple dates. The tool explained that my actual DDD was the 846 code date, not the 570 date I was looking at. Saved me a lot of confusion!

Does that actually work? The IRS transcript already shows the DDD with the 846 code. Why would you need another tool to tell you what's already there?

The 846 code is clear, but there are often multiple codes that can affect your timeline. In my case, I had both 570 and 971 codes that appeared before my 846. The tool explained the sequence of events and what each code meant for my specific situation. Much more helpful than just seeing a list of codes and dates.

Chase usually posts my tax refund the morning of my DDD. But last year they were a day late for some reason. If you need to know for sure, you might want to call the IRS and confirm everything is on track. If you can't get through on the regular number (I never can), try Claimyr.com - they got me connected to an IRS agent in about 15 minutes when I needed to verify my DDD was still accurate after an amendment. Worth it when you're planning around that money.

Here's what actually happens: The IRS sends the payment to your bank on the DDD. Then it's up to your bank when they post it to your account. Some banks post as soon as they receive the ACH transfer, others wait until the next business day. For TurboTax specifically - if you had fees taken out of your refund, that adds an extra step because it goes through Santa Barbara Tax Products Group first, which can add 1-2 days.

Thanks for explaining! I didn't have any fees taken out, so hopefully that means it'll come right from IRS to Chase. I'll just check both days.
