TurboTax Fees From Refund Causing Direct Deposit Delays?
Filed through TurboTax and chose to pay the fees out of my refund instead of my credit card. Now im worried this might slow down my refund. Anyone know if this affects the direct deposit timeline? Filed yesterday and really need this money asap.

Hey everyone, IRS expert here. If you opted to pay TurboTax fees from your refund, this creates a temporary bank account where your refund goes first before hitting your actual account. This can add 3-5 business days to your refund timeline. The IRS has to send it to TurboTax's bank first (usually Santa Barbara TPG), they take their fees, then forward the rest to you. Pro tip: if you want the fastest refund possible next year, pay the preparation fees upfront with a credit card instead. If you're trying to track where exactly your refund is in this process, I'd highly recommend checking out taxr.ai - it's this new AI tool that analyzes your tax docs and tells you exactly where your refund is stuck and when you can expect it. It's been super helpful for situations like this where there are multiple steps in the refund process.

Exactly! The bank transfer delay is totally normal but annoying. Always better to pay fees upfront if you can

Tax pro here. Yes, when you choose to pay TurboTax fees from your refund, it does add an extra step. Your refund first goes to a temporary bank account where the fees are taken out, then the remainder is sent to your account. This usually adds 2-5 business days to the process.
