Timeline after ID verification call for direct deposit refund?
I'm curious about the processing timeline post-verification protocol. After completing the ID verification call with the IRS, the agent specified a 4-week processing window for my refund to be issued. However, I've already experienced significant delays in the verification queue and am concerned about further processing anomalies. I've opted for direct deposit to expedite fund transfer once approved. Has anyone gone through this verification process recently? What was your actual timeline from verification call to deposit? The medication costs I'm covering out-of-pocket are adding up, so I'm trying to plan my finances accordingly.

Verification delays are common. Four weeks is standard. Sometimes faster. Sometimes longer. Depends on backlog. Direct deposit helps. Usually 7-10 days after processing completes. System can be unpredictable. Hang in there.

I was verified on March 2nd at exactly 2:15pm and received my refund on March 19th at 9:47am - so exactly 17 days for me. The agent told me 3-4 weeks, but it came earlier. My sister waited exactly 28 days though, so it really varies. The direct deposit definitely speeds things up compared to paper checks which can add another 5-7 days.

Thank you for this info! I just had my verification call on April 3rd. Really hoping it doesn't take the full 4 weeks since I'm also waiting on direct deposit. Did your transcript update before you got the deposit or did it just show up?

I'm confused about this verification process. Is this something everyone has to do? My situation: ā¢ Filed electronically on February 21 ā¢ Got accepted same day ā¢ WMR still shows processing ā¢ No contact from IRS Should I be proactively calling for verification or just keep waiting?

Has anyone noticed if having prior year issues might affect the verification timeline? I'm wondering if those with clean tax histories get processed more quickly after verification calls.

Was this your first time being asked to verify your identity? Last year I had to verify and it took almost 6 weeks after the call to get my refund, even with direct deposit. Did they give you any specific reason for the verification?

What documentation did they require during your verification process? I have my call scheduled for next week and want to make sure I have everything ready. Did they ask about previous years' filing information?

Why does the IRS make this process so complicated? Couldn't they just use the information they already have on file? I mean, they certainly know enough about us to send bills, right? And why does it take weeks after verification when they've already confirmed who you are?

I believe the verification delays may be related to algorithmic fraud detection systems. In my experience, approximately 15% of returns get flagged for various verification requirements, especially those with certain credits or deductions. It's supposedly a security measure, but the implementation leaves much to be desired.

I've been tracking timelines on various forums. According to TaxRefundData.org and the r/tax megathread, most people are seeing 14-21 days for direct deposit after verification if they don't have any other holds. Some refunds are coming through faster this year compared to the 2023 processing season. My verification was completed on March 15th and I'm still waiting, but the IRS2Go app just updated to approved status yesterday.

I was in the exact same situation last month. Waited 3 hours on hold trying to reach someone at the IRS to check my status after verification. Ended up using Claimyr (https://claimyr.com) and got connected to an agent in about 15 minutes. The agent confirmed my verification was complete and that my refund was approved but just waiting in the processing queue. Saved me days of stressing and redial attempts. Worth it considering how much I needed that confirmation for peace of mind.

Have you checked your transcript since the verification call? The transcript often updates before the WMR tool and can give you more specific information about where your return stands in the process. What codes are showing on your account transcript?

This is excellent advice. Transcript codes are the most reliable indicators of processing status. The 766/768/846 sequence typically indicates final processing stages, while 570/971 combinations may suggest additional review. The cycle codes can also help predict the exact week of release.

Compared to last year's processing, the transcripts seem to update more frequently now. In 2023, many people (myself included) saw no updates for weeks, then suddenly everything happened at once. This year's system appears more incremental in showing progress.

FYI - the IRS has diff processing times depending on your situation. DD is def faster than paper checks. But verification can add 3-6 wks to processing time. Also matters if you claimed certain credits (CTC, EITC, etc). Transcripts usually update on Fridays. WMR updates Sat mornings. Might wanna check both tmrw.

I had to verify my identity in February (classic IRS timing, right? š). My experience was about 3 weeks from verification to deposit. What's interesting is that the first 2.5 weeks showed absolutely no movement on WMR or transcripts, then suddenly everything updated at once. The anxiety of waiting for medical expense reimbursement is real though - hope you get yours soon!

I went through this exact verification process last month. Called on March 2nd after getting the letter, verified my identity with an agent who was actually very helpful. She told me 4-6 weeks, but my refund hit my account on March 23rd - so exactly 3 weeks later. My transcript updated about 4 days before the deposit showed up. I also needed the money for medical bills, so I was checking obsessively. One thing that helped was checking my transcript for the 846 code which shows the scheduled refund date.

The community wisdom on verification timelines is that 14-28 days is the typical range for direct deposit after successful verification! I'm SO EXCITED to report that the IRS seems to be processing faster this year compared to the disaster that was 2023. Most people in this sub are reporting closer to the 14-21 day range recently. Make sure you're checking both WMR and your transcripts - sometimes one updates before the other!

Just to clarify - the 14-28 day timeline is business days, not calendar days. So effectively 3-5.5 weeks depending on holidays and weekends. The IRS processing centers operate on different schedules depending on the service center handling your return.

I verified on February 27th and got my refund March 25th - almost exactly 4 weeks. But my coworker verified March 10th and got hers April 2nd - just over 3 weeks. We both filed around the same time in early February and both had the Child Tax Credit. Seems like they're catching up on the backlog.
