Tax Topic 152 showing after filing with marketplace insurance - normal?

I know this has been mentioned before but I suppose I am not understanding it fully. My return was accepted on January 23rd of this year. I'm single with no dependents, and I did submit the marketplace insurance paperwork (Form 1095-A). When I check my status, I get: "Related to your tax situation: Tax Topic 152, Refund Information" I was under the impression that Tax Topic 152 was related to Earned Income Credit? Am I misunderstanding something? My status is still showing as "accepted" but several of my friends have already received their refunds, so I'm wondering what's happening with mine. The only difference this year is I used Cash App to file instead of my usual tax service. This is making me nervous for my business quarterly estimates coming up - I was counting on my refund to help cover some of those costs.

Tax Topic 152 is actually just a general notice that means you're getting a refund. It's not specific to Earned Income Credit at all! šŸ˜‚ I see this confusion all the time. The marketplace insurance (1095-A) might be adding some processing time though. They have to verify your Premium Tax Credit info, which can add a week or two. Cash App is fine as a filing method - I've used them before with no issues.

Wow, I had no idea that's what Tax Topic 152 meant! I've been filing for years and always thought it was something bad when I saw it. This explanation makes so much more sense than what I was thinking. Compared to last year when I didn't get this message, I was worried something was wrong with my return.

Is there any way to know how much longer it will take when you have marketplace insurance? I'm in the same boat and also filed in January. Should I be concerned at this point?

This happened to me last year too. I remember freaking out about Tax Topic 152 because I thought it meant there was a problem. Turns out my return just needed additional review because of the Premium Tax Credit from marketplace insurance. It took about 3 weeks longer than my husband's return (we file separately). Just hang in there!

I'm racing against the clock to finish some client tax work, but wanted to quickly address your situation: ā€¢ Tax Topic 152 simply means you're getting a refund - it's a GOOD thing ā€¢ Marketplace insurance (1095-A) typically adds 7-21 days to processing ā€¢ Cash App tax is perfectly legitimate but different services have different transmission systems ā€¢ Returns filed after Jan 29th with certain credits face mandatory delays ā€¢ "Accepted" only means the IRS received it, not that processing is complete Did you verify your return was actually accepted on the IRS site or just through Cash App?

I'm wondering if there might be a difference between the Cash App notification system and what the IRS is actually showing? Sometimes third-party filing services show different status updates than what's in the IRS system.

This is SO helpful!! I've been stressing about the same thing with my marketplace insurance. The bullet points make it so easy to understand - thank you!!

I had marketplace insurance last year and it took exactly 18 days longer than my previous year's refund. The system needs to cross-reference your 1095-A information with what the marketplace reported. As long as everything matches, you should be fine, but it does add time to processing.

Cash App Tax worked fine for me. Got my refund. Just took longer than TurboTax did last year. Same info on return. Different processing time.

I'm in a similar boat with the marketplace insurance. Here's what I've learned through my own experience: Step 1: When your return is received, it gets the "accepted" status Step 2: With marketplace insurance, they do additional verification of your 1095-A Step 3: This verification process can add 2-3 weeks to processing time Step 4: Tax Topic 152 is actually just standard language for refunds I'm a bit worried myself because I'm at day 29 of waiting. I've filed with marketplace insurance for three years now, and it always takes longer than my friends' returns. Last year it took 24 days from acceptance to deposit.

According to the IRS website, processing times are running longer this year. I was in the same situation with marketplace insurance and Tax Topic 152. After waiting 3 weeks with no updates, I tried calling the IRS but couldn't get through after multiple attempts. Finally used Claimyr (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c) to connect with an IRS agent. The agent confirmed my return was just in the verification queue for the Premium Tax Credit and there were no issues or flags. Got my refund 4 days later. Sometimes you just need to talk to a human to get peace of mind.

Does this service actually work? Seems like it would be cheaper to just keep calling the IRS yourself. I've spent hours on hold before but eventually got through without paying anything.

Have you checked your tax transcript on the IRS website? According to Internal Revenue Manual 21.4.1, transcript codes can tell you exactly where your return is in processing. For marketplace insurance returns, you'll typically see transaction code 570 (additional review) followed by 571 (review complete) before your refund is issued. This is standard procedure for returns with Form 8962 (Premium Tax Credit).

Filing with Cash App is like driving a different car on the same highway - you'll still get there, just might feel a little different along the way. The real delay is almost certainly your marketplace insurance form. Time is of the essence with tax season in full swing - if you need this refund for your quarterly business payments, you might want to make alternate arrangements. The IRS processing queue is like a crowded restaurant on Valentine's Day right now - everyone's waiting longer than usual, especially with insurance verification in the mix.

Tax professional here. Tax Topic 152 is simply informational and indicates you're due a refund. It's not specific to any credit or deduction. The marketplace insurance form (1095-A) requires additional processing because the IRS needs to verify the Premium Tax Credit information against what was reported by the marketplace. Have you checked your tax transcript on the IRS website? That would give us a much clearer picture of what's happening with your return. Also, when you say "accepted" - is that what the IRS Where's My Refund tool shows, or just what Cash App is telling you?

I filed on January 24th with marketplace insurance and had exactly the same situation. My transcript showed no movement for exactly 21 days, then suddenly updated with a direct deposit date. The refund hit my account 2 days later on February 16th at 3:27am. The 1095-A processing adds time but doesn't mean anything is wrong. Based on the last three years of filing with marketplace insurance, my refunds have taken 21, 19, and 21 days respectively from acceptance to deposit. It's like clockwork once you know what to expect.

My experience was almost identical! Filed Jan 25th, had the 152 topic, and refund appeared on February 17th. The marketplace verification is definitely what causes the delay, but it's a normal part of the process.
