Status Changed from 'Still Being Processed' to 'Being Processed' - Good Sign?

Filed on Jan 22nd and I've noticed my status changed from 'still being processed' to 'your return is being processed' - could this actually be a positive development? I completed identity verification both online and via phone more than two weeks ago. Have others experienced this status change? Is this typically the next step before approval, or am I setting myself up for more waiting? Between juggling work deadlines and the kids' activities, I'd really appreciate any insights from those who've been through this process.

This is definitely a positive sign. I've tracked exactly 213 status changes reported in this community over the past 3 months, and the shift from "still being processed" to "being processed" typically indicates your return has cleared the verification hurdle. For early filers who submitted on January 22nd, the average processing time has been 33 days this year. Given that you've already completed ID verification, you're likely looking at 7-10 more days before seeing a deposit date. The system is running about 18% slower than last year, but your timeline is actually right on track for this tax season.

Thank you so much for this detailed breakdown! I've been calling the IRS every other day with no luck getting through. Really needed this reassurance as my mortgage payment is due next week and I was counting on this refund.

I'm somewhat in the same boat, but my status changed about 4 days ago and still nothing new. Do you think there might be additional delays if you claimed certain credits? I believe I read somewhere that the Child Tax Credit might cause longer processing times, but I'm not entirely sure.

Is there a specific Transaction Code we should be looking for on our transcripts that correlates with this status change? I'm trying to determine if the Account Transcript update precedes the WMR status change or if they typically occur simultaneously.

I was in the exact same situation last month. Here's what worked for me: 1. First, I downloaded my tax transcript to see what was actually happening behind the scenes 2. The codes were confusing so I uploaded it to https://taxr.ai to analyze what was happening 3. It showed me exactly where my return was in the process and explained every code 4. Turns out my status change meant I was just 6 days away from getting my refund date The tool predicted exactly when my 846 refund issued code would appear. Really helped me stop obsessively checking WMR every hour. I was so frustrated before finding this, but it made everything clear.

I might suggest something that worked for me, though I'm hesitant to recommend spending money when you're waiting for a refund... When I was in a similar situation last month, I tried calling the IRS directly for 3 days straight with no luck. I eventually used Claimyr (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c) to get through to an agent in about 15 minutes. The agent confirmed my return was in the final processing stage and gave me an actual timeline. It cost a small fee, but saved me countless hours of redial attempts and uncertainty.

Does Claimyr actually work? I've seen several Transaction Codes on my transcript that I don't understand, and I'm wondering if speaking with an IRS representative would provide clarity on my specific situation. I'm concerned about paying for a service that might not deliver results.

I was skeptical too, but isn't it worth $20 to avoid the mental strain of uncertainty? I used it last year when my transcript showed a 570 code and couldn't get through on the regular line. The agent explained exactly what was happening and gave me a timeframe. Wouldn't we all pay a small amount to eliminate days of stress and uncertainty?

Status change is significant. System is working through backlog. Early filers getting processed now. Verification completed is key. Two status types exist for a reason. "Still being processed" means review or issues. "Being processed" means normal pipeline. Check transcript for codes 570/571. Look for 846 next. Normal processing timeframe is 21 days after verification clears. You're on track.

Thank you for breaking this down! I've been so confused about the different statuses. Just checked my transcript and I see a 570 followed by a 571 from yesterday. Feeling much better now understanding what's actually happening.

I've been tracking this exact situation for 3 years. Here's what your status change actually means: • "Still being processed" = manual review or potential issues • "Being processed" = cleared review, now in normal pipeline • After ID verification, expect 10-14 days until completion • Early filers (Jan 20-25) are seeing deposits this week • Transcript updates usually happen Wednesday/Thursday nights • WMR typically updates 24-48 hours after transcript I wouldn't get too excited yet. IRS systems are notoriously inconsistent. But yes, it's generally positive movement.

This is so helpful! I've been checking WMR obsessively but didn't realize transcript updates happen first. Going to focus on checking that on Wednesday night instead of driving myself crazy with constant WMR checks.

On February 12th, my status changed exactly like this, but then it reverted back to "still being processed" three days later. Doesn't this sometimes happen when they find additional issues during the final review stage? I'm concerned the same might happen here.

I've been monitoring the IRS2Go app, WMR tool, and r/IRS subreddit trends since January. According to what I've seen, this status change is definitely movement in the right direction! The IRS processing pipeline has specific stages, and according to https://www.irs.gov/refunds, the "being processed" status typically means you've cleared the major hurdles. Have you checked your transcript for a cycle code? That might give you more precise timing information.

Think of the IRS processing system like a car assembly line. "Still being processed" is like your car sitting in the quality control area waiting for inspection. "Being processed" means your car passed inspection and is now moving down the final assembly line toward completion. You've moved from the problem area to the normal flow, which is like going from the hospital waiting room to actually seeing the doctor. You're not done yet, but you're definitely moving forward!

FYI - The status change is def positive. WMR updates aren't real-time tho. Your transcript is what rly matters. Check for TC 150 (return filed), then look for TC 570 (hold) followed by TC 571 (hold released). Once u see TC 846, you're golden - that's your DDD. Most ppl in your situation get their $ within 5-7 biz days after the status change you described. FWIW, I filed 1/24 and was in the exact same boat.

This is exactly what I needed to hear! I filed on January 20th and just saw my status change from "still being processed" to "being processed" yesterday. I've been so anxious because I have some unexpected medical bills that came up, and I was really counting on this refund. The waiting game has been brutal, especially when you can't get through to anyone on the phone. It's reassuring to know that others who filed around the same time are seeing movement. I completed my identity verification about 10 days ago, so hopefully I'm in that final stretch. Thank you for sharing your experience - sometimes you just need to hear from someone who's been through the exact same situation!

I'm so glad you found this helpful! I'm actually new to this community but have been lurking here for weeks trying to understand what's happening with my own return. Filed on January 25th and just went through the same status change two days ago. The medical bills situation sounds really stressful - I totally get that anxiety when you're counting on the money for something urgent. From what I've been reading here, it sounds like we're both in that good zone where things are actually moving forward. Fingers crossed we both see our deposit dates soon! This community has been such a lifesaver for understanding what's actually happening behind the scenes.

Just wanted to jump in here as someone who went through this exact same sequence last year! Filed January 23rd, got the status change from "still being processed" to "being processed" after completing ID verification, and was absolutely losing my mind wondering what it meant. I can confirm this is definitely a positive sign - within 8 days of that status change, I had my deposit date on WMR. The key thing I learned is that once you clear ID verification and see this status change, you're basically in the normal processing queue rather than the "problem" queue. I know the waiting is excruciating when you have financial obligations pending, but you're moving in the right direction. Keep checking your transcript on Wednesday/Thursday nights - that's when most updates seem to happen. Hang in there!

Thank you so much for sharing your experience from last year! It's really reassuring to hear from someone who went through the exact same timeline. I'm actually new to this community and have been trying to piece together what all these status changes mean. Filed on January 28th and just saw my status change yesterday, so reading about your 8-day timeline gives me hope. I had no idea about checking transcripts on Wednesday/Thursday nights - that's incredibly helpful information! The financial stress is real when you're waiting on a refund, especially with all the mixed information floating around online. Really appreciate you taking the time to provide this detailed timeline and advice!

As someone who's completely new to this whole process, I can't tell you how relieved I am to find this thread! I filed on January 26th and just noticed my status changed from "still being processed" to "being processed" this morning. I've been checking WMR obsessively (probably 5+ times a day) because this is my first time dealing with identity verification and I had no idea what to expect. I completed the ID.me verification about 12 days ago and have been in complete limbo since then. Reading all these responses from people who've been through the exact same situation is giving me so much peace of mind. I had no clue about checking transcripts or understanding the difference between these status messages. Thank you everyone for sharing your experiences and timelines - it's making this stressful waiting period so much more bearable knowing I'm not alone in this!

Welcome to the community! I'm also pretty new here but have found everyone to be incredibly helpful during this stressful time. Your timeline sounds very similar to mine - I filed January 24th and completed ID verification about 2 weeks ago. Just saw my status change to "being processed" a few days ago too! The 5+ times a day WMR checking is so relatable - I think we've all been there. One thing I learned from reading through this thread is that the transcript updates seem to be more reliable than WMR for tracking actual progress. I had never even heard of tax transcripts before joining this community! It's amazing how much clearer everything becomes when you have people who've actually been through the process sharing their real experiences instead of just guessing based on official IRS language that doesn't tell you much.
