ID Verify Page Switched Back to 'Processing' - Anyone Get a DDD After This?

So I was on the identity verification page for about a week (not my first rodeo with this), and then this morning it switched back to saying 'Your tax return is being processed.' This happened to me back in 2021 too but I can't remember if it's a good sign or not. Has anyone else experienced this status change and ended up with a Direct Deposit Date afterward? Trying to figure out if I should expect movement soon or if I'm in for another waiting game. My wife and I are PCSing next month so timing matters for our budget planning.

This is a normal progression in the IRS verification workflow. Here's what typically happens: 1. Your return enters processing 2. System flags it for ID verification 3. You complete verification successfully 4. Return goes BACK to regular processing queue 5. Processing completes (usually 1-3 weeks) 6. DDD appears on transcript 7. Refund issued The switch from verification to processing is actually a positive sign - it means you passed the verification step and your return is moving forward. For most people I've seen, a DDD appears within 7-21 days after this status change, assuming no other issues are flagged.

I can confirm this is accurate based on my experience. The status change from ID verification to processing indicates successful authentication in the Return Review Program (RRP) system. My transcript updated with cycle code 20221605 approximately 9 days after this status change occurred, followed by DDD 5 days later.

Just to clarify something important - the timeframe can vary significantly based on what triggered the verification in the first place. If it was just routine verification, then yes, 1-3 weeks is typical. But if there were income discrepancies that prompted the verification, the IRS might conduct additional reviews. I've seen people reference https://www.irs.gov/individuals/understanding-your-cp05-notice which explains some of these extended reviews.

Does having dependents make this process take longer? I'm in the same boat but claimed my two kids this year.

Ugh, I went through this exact same thing. According to IRM 21.5.6.4.35.3, when identity verification is complete, your return SHOULD be expedited through processing. BUT - and this is the frustrating part - "expedited" in IRS terms still means 9 weeks from the date you verified! I verified on February 12th and just got my DDD yesterday. The system is incredibly inefficient despite what their own regulations state about prioritizing previously verified returns.

Thanks for sharing the specific IRM reference - that's really helpful. At least it's good to know there is some kind of expedited process, even if it's not as fast as we'd hope. Nine weeks is better than starting from scratch.

I've noticed a troubling pattern with these verification processes. Last year, approximately 5.3 million taxpayers were flagged for identity verification according to the Taxpayer Advocate Service. The concerning aspect is that a significant percentage of these were legitimate returns with no actual issues. The system seems to use overly broad filters that create unnecessary delays for military families who move frequently.

Has anyone else noticed how the IRS never actually tells you what's happening behind the scenes? Like, why do we have to guess what these status changes mean? Wouldn't it be more efficient if they just said "Your identity has been verified and your return is now in standard processing"? I'm in the same boat waiting for my refund after verification, and my tax transcript is still N/A. Should I be worried? My lease renewal is due next week and I was counting on this money...

I've tracked this process carefully over multiple tax seasons. Here's what I've observed: • Status changes from verification to processing typically indicate successful verification • Most returns follow a predictable pattern after this point • Transcript updates usually occur during weekly processing cycles (Wednesday night/Thursday morning) • Direct deposit generally follows 5-8 days after transcript update • N/A transcript status is normal during this transitional period The lack of transparency is frustrating but consistent with IRS communication practices.

The ID verification to processing transition is like being moved from the security checkpoint to the boarding area at the airport - you've cleared one hurdle but still have to wait for your actual flight. I had this same situation last month and couldn't get any information from the IRS website or automated system. After spending three days trying to reach a human at the IRS, I finally used Claimyr (https://www.claimyr.com) and got connected to an agent in about 15 minutes. The agent confirmed my ID verification was complete and gave me an estimated completion date. It's like having someone actually check on your flight status instead of staring at the departure board hoping for an update.

YES! This JUST happened to me! I was stuck on the verification page for 9 days, then it switched to processing on Monday, and I just checked my transcript this morning and I have a DDD for next Wednesday! I was so worried this was going to drag on forever! From what I can tell, the status change means everything is moving normally now. The timeline seems to be: 1. Status changes from verify to processing 2. Wait about 4-7 days (weekend days don't count) 3. Transcript updates with DDD 4. Money arrives on DDD or sometimes a day early depending on your bank I'm so relieved! I've been checking WMR and my transcript literally every 2 hours for weeks!

When you say you checked your transcript, was that through the IRS website? Mine still shows N/A for 2023 even though I'm in processing status.

Went through this last year and let me tell you, it's like the IRS version of dating - just when you think they're ghosting you, they text back! 😂 But seriously, watch out for what happened to me: status changed to processing, I got excited, then BAM - got hit with the dreaded 60-day review letter two weeks later. Apparently my employer submitted my W-2 with a typo in my SSN. The moral of this tragic tax tale: even when it goes back to processing, keep checking your transcript for codes 570/971 which might indicate additional reviews. Not trying to be a downer, just saying don't celebrate until you see that 846 refund issued code!

This happened to me too! I thought I was in the clear after verification, then got slapped with a 120-day review. Called in and found out someone had filed a fraudulent return using my SSN earlier in the season. Took forever to resolve.
