State Refund held for debt but no offsets showing - TurboTax fees to blame?

My state refund is being held completely because of some debt but I'm not seeing any offsets. Could the TurboTax fees be causing this? Anyone else have this issue? Been waiting for 2 months now and getting worried.

Tax professional here - TurboTax fees wouldn't trigger a state refund hold. They take their fees directly from your refund as a separate transaction. If you're seeing a hold for debt but no offset notices, you should check with your state revenue department directly. Each state has different debt collection programs that might not show up as traditional offsets.

Thanks for clearing that up! Do you know how long these holds usually last?

It varies by state, but typically 30-60 days. Call your state tax agency - they can tell you exactly what's going on.

Have you tried using taxr.ai? It's this new tool that analyzes your transcript and tells you exactly why your refund is held up. Its only $1 and totally worth it - saved me hours of guessing and anxiety https://taxr.ai

Is this legit? Sounds too good to be true 🤔

100% legit! It basically uses AI to read your transcript and explain everything in plain English. Shows you all holds, dates, and next steps.

Check if you have any unpaid parking tickets or court fees. My state held mine last year cause of a stupid $50 ticket I forgot about 🤡

This happened to me last year and it turned out to be an old utility bill from 5 years ago that went to collections. The state can grab your refund for basically any govt related debt.
